Scottie Barnes to Return vs Cavs

Post#1 » by Tor_Raps » Thu Nov 4, 2021 8:36 pm

Didn't see a thread on this anywhere but news like this deserves its own thread. While it was great to win those 2 games without Barnes, the excitement level with him in the lineup is just so much more.

Oh no! Does this mean Svi goes back to the bench? Damn!

Probably, but it might be an idea to bring Scottie off the bench to face the Cavs' reserves. Unlike Pascal, he can't have practised much shooting during his hiatus. And Svi's outside shooting in the starting unit gives Fred more room to operate.

Perfect. The Cavs have one of the biggest if not the biggest frontcourts of all time and the Raptors need Scottie's rebounding if they are going to win.

What is the over under on number of times the Raps strip the ball while a big man tries to go up? 20?

If the raps are the next generation w the 6'8/6'9 ball, the cavs are tryna be the generation after that one with mobile 6'11 type players. It should be cool to see these matchups these next few years if their core develops.

He missed like 5 days lol. It’s hardly a hiatus. Basically like an all star break

Time to show he’s better than the #3 pick. Cavs have been sneakily pretty good so far

I wish he can take an extra game or two for rest, instead of rushing him to market the battle between #3 vs #4 pick.

I really see no rush in getting him back against the Cavs. Even we lose to the Cavs, I am fine with donating a game to them.

I feel like Mobley wanted to play for the raptors!

Raptors were the only team he was following on twitter before the draft and this was before the raptors had a high pick!

not sure what the connection is. Maybe derozen from USC?

We usually have a break like that in our schedule in addition to the allstar break

Yeah. If he were out for over 10 days then maybe we could expect some rust, but it hasn’t even been a week

Also conditioning shouldn’t be an issue too since I’m sure he was able to still workout even if not playing true 5 on 5 ball. A sprain thumb means he can still do cardio and whatever else

He should be good to go

Yes, but usually players practice shooting during those breaks. Not sure how much practice Scottie could get in with a jammed right thumb.

Just an idea. But it is undoubtedly true that until Barnes develops a reliable 3-point-shot, then the starting 5 with Scottie is sub-optimal as long as our starting C can't stretch the floor. That may be fine in a development year, but I'm kinda getting the idea we want to win games.

You took the convo elsewhere, which I do agree with. A lineup of Fred - OG - Barnes - Siakam - Birch lack the outside shooting while using Trent instead of Birch leaves us really weak on the inside defensively and rebounding wise.

It's why I created the Barnes/Mobley swap being perfect for both teams fit wise even though I already love Barnes. One thing for sure though, Fred - OG - Barnes - Siakam - Birch will be a nightmare for other teams to score against.

Because they won in 2019 and everyone can see they got bad luck and would bounce back into the playoffs over the other bottom 5 teams.

Detroit
Houston
Cleveland
Toronto
Orlando

Of course Toronto is the choice destination.
