Nothing to worry about - it is guaranteed to happen.

Remember when 99% of this board believed we signed an all-star potential guard (undrafted) in Terence Davis back in 2019 - he currently has -3.4 PER.

Then Flynn was the next FVV after summer league 2020?

Will it turn out that Banton is the steal of the draft?

He's 2nd among rookies in TPA with a minimum of 100 minutes played. Pretty impressive.

Remember when this fanbase was upset that Nurse was playing McCaw over Terrence Davis and Matt Thomas because they wanted to develop their amazing potential?

Now Nurse has a rookie that has leapfrogged two vets in front of him. The reason for both situations? Defense.

If you show you can play defense in the scheme with BBIQ, you will get minutes. Usually that is the vet. With Banton, he has remarkably gained the trust of Nurse to earn 6th man and even closing minutes so far this season. It is a testament to his ability to pick up the defense.

Oh how you leave out FVV, Pascal, Norm, Boucher, OG, etc. 5 steals that turn out good out of 6 players isn't a bad ratio is it ?

12.0 MIN, 5.3 PTS, 2.3 REB, 1.4 AST, 0.7 STL, 0.3 BLK, 57.1 FG, 37.5 3PT, 58.3 FT, .613 TS%

Dude could make an all rookie team.

VV+Banton has a +17.4 net rating. I'd like to see more of this because it puts the ball in Banton's hands and VV can play more off the ball and hit 3s.

I think we'll see Dalano spend some time with the 905 once their season gets underway. He needs to get more reps as the primary ballhandler and improve his offensive decision making. He also needs reps as a primary scorer if he's going to eventually become a lead guard in the league.

Everything else has been great with him though. I've said it before that the energy he brings with him into the game is infectious and changes the dynamic whenever he gets on the court. He needs some 905 work to start refining the rawer parts of his game.

First off... no I don't recall Flynn being hyped as better than FVV.

The difference is Banton is sitting top 10 in rookies with the way he has played to date, easily. Terrence Davis wasn't banton, nor could he defend at that level ever.

And if you want to even mention PER, why did you ignore Banton's that's 14th for Point guards overall. Now that is heavily skewed by rebounding I'm sure, and it's only PER, but it's still very high already.

Most importantly... he's got the best sneer in the entire NBA.

I'd like to see him fail more before making any roster decisions. He makes the team better and the things he really needs to get better at (strength/shooting) are long-term development stuff that won't really improve with 905 playing time.

The last few games he's taken on even more primary ballhandler possessions with some success. The biggest drawback, imo, is that there's too many non-shooters (Barnes, Banton, Birch, Achiuwa and now Boucher). They're going to get in each others way for a while.

Only **** thing is Banton can't really play when Barnes/Siakam are on the floor. Those 3 together would just be in each others way constantly. All 3 need to improve their jump shot because they all have such great intangibles.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

I am still not sure if he is actually a point guard. Defensively, no doubt, he looks good.

He has yet to show he can run the half-court offense. Flynn steps in, even for a minute or a two, and you can clearly see the difference.

He really needs that back-and-forth with the G-league, to force himself to run an offense.

Great post. Davis was a litmus test for whether somebody understood what the Raptors were trying to do in terms of their schemes.

Nurse rewards players who are committed to playing smart off-ball, rotate and are generally where they're supposed to be to avoid breakdowns. If a rookie can do all that as well as a vet (Banton, Barnes) then they play.

Banton can guard every position on a switch. It's hard to compare him to TD in that respect. TD, imo, is closer to Svi. He could shoot and bring energy, but a lot of his stupid risks wouldn't pay off. At least Svi doesn't foul.

Banton is defensively responsible, but you can see he occasionally forgets his rotation or takes a bad angle. There's loads of defensive potential with him after a few years of NBA weight training and experience.
