I finally realized the vibe I was getting from Edward Rogers this morning with the front page of The Star. It's Harold Ballard. The push to take over. To get rid of your perceived enemies in the ownership group. To keep employees underpaid and in their place. Harold was a black hole in Maple Leafs history. He created more animosity among ex players and employees than anyone I've ever heard of. Rogers is Ballard 2.0.

'Cos it's easier to try
Than to prove it can't be done
Than to prove it can't be done

I'm just shocked at this outcome. Who would have known?
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

It's probably not an "outcome". Rogers (the company) has said it will appeal. The 2008 BCE decision went up to the Supreme Court of Canada in record time.

That's sure to hurt the stock price.

I would be shocked had it gone the other way. Ed controls the Family Trust that controls RCI, thus he also controls RCI. From a pure legal standpoint, it was essentially an open and shut case.
The opposition's defense was the Directors appointed by Ed didn't come through a shareholder's vote, thus not binding. But that's purely a procedural issue that doesn't change the fact that substantively Ed has the majority of the votes (i.e., had they gone through a formal shareholders' meeting and voted, Ed would have won because he held the majority). Clearly the BC Supreme Court felt the same way.
