Re: OT: Video Game Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos Thread
I know I'm like a month late from release, but...
Metroid Dread is okay, probably good. Definitely not great IMO. The environment/atmosphere is quite dull compared to recent indie competition, the zones don't feel like they have secrets - just doors you can't open for various reasons - and the controls are frankly quite bad. Jumping feels terrible, especially trying to wall jump or grab ledges. And reloads after dying are way, way too slow.
The boss fights have been quite good. Just got the phantom cloak, and that boss in particular was pretty great. The EMMIs have been interesting...just, again, wish reloads were faster.
It's fine, and I'll stick it out knowing how short it is (I think I'm about 1/3 done in one short night), but I cant believe anyone would think this is top of the genre if they've played Ori 1 or 2, Hollow Knight, and the like.

Finally leveled off an entire area of land for my end-game base, now to setup the walls around it. Going to plant trees in front of natural walls so that the base is hidden. Might go with a portal entrance.

God I wish this game was on console.

Branching out from my shield usage. I don't understand how people can use the bow (and why it's so popular, apparently!) but I'm happy to learn that the spear can absolutely wreck.

I think I've said this in previous Hades discussions, but the Aspect of Chiron bow absolutely melts and does so consistently. Throw some Titan blood at it to upgrade that aspect and enjoy several consecutive clears.

That's what I did and what I regret! I couldn't get out of the first level. I hate charging the shots.

Use the secondary. You don’t use the charge shot in that build.

Hmm. I'll have to watch some build videos. If you have one to recommend I'd appreciated it.

I'm liking Dread a bit more the more I play it. It's also a little longer than I thought it was trending at first - was thinking it might be linearly based on killing the EMMIs, and it appears it is not. The boss battles have really been a lot of fun - easily my favorite part. Challenging (to me, at least) and a small puzzle for each phase without being overwhelming.
With it not being accurate to judge based on EMMIs killed, I'm not sure where I am now. Just got the Diffuse Beam.

I don't know how or why, but the Metroid series has never clicked for me. It birthed my favorite genre of games and I've never liked the originals.

Re: OT: Video Game Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos Thread
I am absolutely desperate to replay the Prime series. Nintendo continues to sit on literal goldmines and remake the wrong games.
Honest question: could Nintendo release a Zelda "collection" for every new system they release and still sell a ton of copies each time? My answer is probably yes.

Never really connected with me, either. I had Super Metroid as a kid and I recall hating it, lol. Probably not a great game for like a 9 year old. I played Prime, but it didn't stick with me.
Like I said, I have liked Ori et al much more - maybe the atmosphere was better to me - but this has gotten pretty good. I read an article a bit ago saying that the heart of Metroid is speed running and improving upon your runs, which I guess in turn unlocks more extras, and not the initial experience. That might be right, and why it probably won't fully click with me. I have no interest in that stuff.

I still haven't decided on Game Pass vs. Steam for FH5. MS Store is such a POS, but then it's also the native platform vs. Steam...which I guess has a bunch of issues for FH4.

I'd go Steam. I'd like to think FH5 got a little more care since it was announced for PC at the same time vs ported later. But that's just my opinion, a guy who likes all his games to be in Steam.

Oh man, FH5 is a lot of fun. Played for almost an hour when I was home on break today, made me wish I didn't have to go back to work. I was gonna do some cooking tonight but I think it'll be delivery Chinese instead. Very, very early but this might be the racer I stick with for a while.

Yep, it is completely ridiculous in the best way possible and it's fantastic. It's also gorgeous - running it on ultra settings, and the eye candy is really incredible. Taken some sweet pics already.

Re: OT: Video Game Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos Thread
Found what seems to be an easy way to earn XP (or whatever currency you get by doing cool ****). There's a long, straight route running east/west at the lower middle of the map of 6.5 miles. I take my Lambo, gun it from one end and try not to screw up. Always get massive amount of XP, and if there's the skill song modifier on the route counts as double. It's also just very fun to go 225 mph and fly. Just get up to Ultimate Speed, and then chain together as many skills are you can without wrecking. Takes me two minutes per XP run.
The downer is there's a glitch that seems to randomly stop you dead in your tracks. I think it's network related, but more than a few times I've been in the middle of a monster XP fest and lost it all because of the glitch.

For those that might be interested, Football Manager 2022 is available on Xbox Game Pass.
