Game Thread: Hawks at Warriors -- 11/8

Trae Young’s Hawks meet Warriors’ top ranked defense

Image

The Golden State Warriors are fresh off of last night’s 120-107 smackdown of the Houston Rockets, but now a much more dangerous opponent is coming to town. The Atlanta Hawks, last year’s Eastern Conference finalist and the team that maybe ended Ben Simmons career, will be the Dubs’ foe on the second night of a back-to-back.

The Hawks are 4-6 right now and looking to get on track after taking a loss to the Phoenix Suns in their last game. In that game alleged Stephen Curry clone Trae Young scored 31 points with 13 assists, but couldn’t get his team over the hump.

He’ll have to deal with Golden State’s vaunted defense, currently ranked #1 in the NBA in defensive efficiency. Curry is playing arguably the best defense of his career. But the beauty of the Warriors is they have more than one defender to throw at Young to test his mettle, including Gary Payton II who is wreaking havoc on a nightly basis.

Golden State has found a bit of magic early in the season, winning eight of their first nine games despite the fact that Klay Thompson has yet to return. Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and the Warriors come into Monday’s contest leading the NBA in assists per game with over 30 per contest so far this season.

The Warriors also have the best net rating in the NBA so far this season, along with the league’s top defensive rating. Atlanta meanwhile ranks 21st in the NBA with a -2.3 net rating. Golden State also ranks second in the Association in team true shooting and eFG%.

The Hawks do catch one break on Monday, Golden State will be on a back-to-back after beating the Houston Rockets at home on Sunday evening.

They are coming off a back to back. Line started at GS-2.5 now it’s GS-3.5. I think this is a good statement game to win and show the league that we are still here and will be a problem, even with the refs against us.

Hawks vs Warriors and the refs!

GO HAWKS!!!

Hawks actually match up well with them. Their frontcourt are nearly non existent threats outside the paint which helps.

It'll be hard to hide Trae against them however.

Hawks by a baker’s dozen! We have to go to Collins. Over and over and over and over.

Whether we are in 1st or 10th place, you'd want a split out west, but they'd be lucky to steal one somewhere.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Steph looking like an all time great in his prime tonight.

Hawks looking like a tired, poorly coached JV squad. :nonono:

More touches for JC. Also, Dray poking JC in the eye late and saying that’s just basketball… ok, you know what else it is, karma. Draymond needs a Jokic pat on the back soon. Hey, he like physicality.

JC 6-7, he should be ?/15-20, comon Nate get us workin in the post and swing, otherwise let JC fry his man. He’s got a ton of adv on offense.

Agreed.

John came out of college as a fairly productive post scorer. We've seen shades of that this season.

Additionally, his rim-running and three point shooting make him an incredibly well rounded offensive player. He should be the 2nd option on pretty much every play.

This team is a f-ing embarrassment. We won't make the playoffs this year and if we do it will be a one and done exit from the play in round.

Nate is trying to make this an equal opportunity offense - that's not gonna work. That's was his Indy style.
Trae and JC first and 2nd - everything and everyone else fit in.
