I honestly think Barrett is a good nba player with alot of potential, just not with his mindset and the NY requirements. Barrett thinks he is an alpha (he isnt) and NYK craves a star (he is not). Instead of trying to Iggy Phi edition, he should try being Iggy GSW addition or a Richard Jefferson type. Barrett has fire complementary skills like slashing and passing, he sucks with alpha skills like shooting and dribbling.

However, with his draft position/ his nonsense hype, his "mentaliy" and NY wanting for him to be a star with the 3rd pick, I feel like he wont be sucessful. Instead of trying to primarily create, he should work off secondary motion and try to score (slashing) and pass while expending most of his effort and attention defensively.

I just do not think RJ is in a position to succeed?

Agree or Disagree?

yeah i'm gonna disagree on every word.

Well, looks like we should have sold high while he was still having his 3 game fugazi Jeremy Lin miracle hot streak. No way he bounces back from this.

RJ will be alright, but we need one more move. If he’s included, so be it. I’d keep him, but I also didn’t like the overreaction to his 35 point game.

Both camps do this...and it's annoying when either of you do it. RJ going off for 35 didn't mean he was done developing and him only chipping 7 in doesn't mean he's done.

What makes it particularly silly is that RJ's offensive growth wasn't even his priority this season.

Thank you. The ill thought out emotional takes are ridiculous for a team of the Knicks stature.

If RJ were consistent he'd already be an All-Star at 21.

There will be ups and downs. We just have to learn to deal with it.

Only things I'm watching are his attitude/energy on the court, and whether his career is on an upwards trajectory or if it stalls. So far, RJ is showing progress overall (albeit not in spectacular fashion) and his effort has remained consistent, so I can't complain.

Will he ever be franchise player-good? Likely not, although who knows. But he doesn't need to become that in order to be an asset for this franchise. Whichever pick he was drafted with is irrelevant now - his next contract is a more interesting topic of conversation imo.

We always wanted to have good young players, but unless they're generational talents, following them generally requires patience.

I'll start freaking out the day RJ regresses or shows signs of complacency.

RJ is the best player on our team this young into his career.

We will always be relevant in contention because of him. He making's cross court passes now and his play making is getting better. Good shooter, defender, athlete...his IQ is way higher than most give him credit for. He isn't a Vince Carter athlete, but strong and fast enough to beat most guys, overtime his consistency will grow. But he's by far the best thing we have going on.

The across court corner 3 pass was a big step in his arsenal last year.

I’ve said he’ll be the cornerstone which will ultimately lead us to glory. Over the top but I actually believe he’s got the ability to get that good but also the mentality to work hard & achieve greatness.

RJ can become our best player and a title-winning #1...but he's not yet and we shouldn't be putting that expectation on him. Having Julius as the hub of the offense, who teams scheme against, is a boon for RJ's development because it lets him focus on specific aspects of his game without having to carry a burden he's not ready for yet. So let's take our time with this healthy growth environment that we have and enjoy watching the steps along the way.

Last season RJ took a huge stride as a C&S guy and secondary perimeter stopper. This season he's taken a huge step as the primary perimeter stopper and is flashing the steps his off-the-dribble game can take moving forward. So let's patiently increase his responsibilities in coordination with his development. Overburdening a kid is a great way to shake their confidence.
