Re: Bears talk 2.0; Fields era begins for real for real
Oh, and those refs were just atrocious. THe booth was talking about it all night. First the missed low block call on PIT, then the phantom low block call against the Bears that wiped out a TD, where the guy was inside the TE box, and whiffed on the block anyway. Took away 4 points, and could have been the difference in the game. Then on the next two hits Justin gets hit and no whistle. I can see on the slide why they didnt' call it, but that next one- the announcers were flabbergasted how that was missed.
And then the final bogus taunting call. Sure, the guy should have restrained himself. But again, everyone in the booth was just speechless that the refs would chose to call that, in that situation. Bears just got screwed.
As for the number of penalties by the Bears, yes, a few of those were just being undisciplined, or not knowing where to line up. But others were PI flags that the Bears deserved, so can't blame Nagy for that. And that flag on Hicks for hitting Ben looked very iffy.

One final thought- those military camo outfits looked ridiculous. If you want to honor the military, find a more dignified way to do it than seeing grown men playing dress up. Maybe take up a donation from the team and ownership for the VA or something.

The biggest Nagy mistake? blowing the time out to ice the kicker. Should have kept it. We would have had a lot more options and likely could have gotten a closer fieldgoal than 66 yards... Hell, 64 would have won the game.

That was not a timeout to ice the kicker. The previous play was a running play that didn't go out of bounds. The clock stopped because they measured. If the timeout wasn't called they could have ran the clock down to 1 second.
Also the FG was like 10 yards short on the replay. Nagy sucks but not for these reasons.

Kmet the latest player to say the more reps together they get with Justin the more in sync they get. The Bears boned this situation so bad.

Pfffttttt, get out of here with your facts that I didn't have. This is America, and I make permanent decisions of 5 second highlights.

Really? It looked like it hit the crossbar. The announcers said that as well.

I thought it hit the crossbar too at first sight but the other angle showed it well short.

Yeah, I yelled because I thought it hit the crossbar too. But on the replay it showed it was well short.

Eh, it's not a longterm issue and it's clear that Mooney, Kmet and Justin are all keepers of varying levels of importance.
I can't imagine how helpful having Justin in house is going to be when attracting a new head coach.

Going for the FG instead of a hail mary was what annoyed me tremendously. You probably have an equal chance of either, give your young QB a chance.

The replay showed it barely got to the goal line… well short. It was a stupid attempt, might as well have just chucked it into the end zone and hoped for the best, would have provided better odds of winning.

And two of those picks were because he was taking a shot because the people in his headset told him he had a free play/the offsides fiasco.

And last night was a fluke. He looks like he is not an interception throwing kind of guy to me. On low volume at least. Under the kinds of extreme pressure he has been under, he would have thrown more if he was prone to INT.

That does make more sense, given Santos previous best kick was only 55. Which makes it a more questionable decision to try the fg instead of a Hail Mary.

I agree. Bears have made a lot of really bad moves, but waiting until when they did to start Justin was not one of them. In the long run, it's not going to mean much at all, and who knows but maybe waiting as long as he did helped in some ways, too. I'm still worried about his longevity- every game he is taking some major hits. At least now the line is slowly getting back to health.

Re: Bears talk 2.0; Fields era begins for real for real
After a rough start, the defense really responded well. It looked like it could be a blowout, but they clamped down and denied PIT on several important drives. They still had some mistakes in the secondary, allowing some deep balls to get completed. That one down the middle of the field, where Ben had all day to throw and found someone wide open about 35 yards downfield was really bad.
It wasn't until late in the game that we started getting more pressure on Ben, too. I don't know if they were blitzing more, or just wearing out the PIT line, but if they had been able to get that kind of pressure earlier in the game, it would have made a big difference.
They did a great job on Najee Harris. The announcers couldn't stop gushing about what a great back he is, but his final numbers were pretty paltry- less than 3 yards per carry I believe.
I did feel bad for Marsh getting that penatly. Just brought up from the practice squad, makes one of the biggest plays of the game, and instead it looks like he cost the team a chance to win with a dumb, dumb penalty. An egregiously bad call, even according to the impartial announcers in the booth, but even still, you have to contain yourself in that situation a bit better. He's got to feel pretty bad about it.

Fields is growing in confidence. You can see he's a gamer and he has IT.
Imagine if he had 1st team reps back in camp and Jenkins and Borom didn't get injured? OC is finally learning how to use his speed too.
If Pace hires the right coach and has a good draft and offseason we could be good next season.
