One thing I will say about the new rules, a lot of legit pump fake draw fouls are not being called. If a player pump fakes and gets the defender off their feet and takes a shot without leaning into the defender, that should still be called and a lot of those are not.

Love the new rules. Their impact if far greater than a couple free throws per game. Dudes can actually play D now and fake stars are starting to complain.
Never disliked Dame but if he cant handle the new old rules then you are exposed.

You don't have to go full Trae or Harden in order to *draw contact* so you can hit a couple of free throws and get your shot going. It is worth noting that the other guys publicly complaining this bad are Trae and Harden.

I kind of disagree. The number one goal of pump fakes are to generate open looks. Punishing a mistake by the defender should be rewarded with a clean/open look and little more (in most cases). I get the idea of rewarding craftiness is a good thing but when its via playing basketball lawyer with the rules then I am less sympathetic. While inevitable, the rules should always reward shot making over everything else, not "player x made a mistake, now I get free FTs and he gets a strike/foul against the team."

I've noticed it's been players on underachieving teams that are complaining about the rule change. Guess they are mad that they can't use bogus foul calls to affect the outcome of games.

Agreed. I think of pickup games and nobody does a pump fake and then hopes to get fouled after getting the defender to bite. The pump fake is to get them out of defensive position so you can make a basketball move.

In general, I think the refs are getting it right and I like that most of the fake calls have gone away. However, there is always an adjustment period and sometimes the refs are over-interpreting the rule and there have been some no calls or offensive fouls that are incorrect. However, as Voltaire once said (paraphrasing): don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good

Refs are missing blatant calls more than ever. Is it better than foul baiting? I don't know, at least foul baiting call were fairly consistent. The new rules are great in theory, not the way they have been implemented.

And to those saying players need to adjust their game, wtf are you actually talking about? Have you been watching these games? Have you seen the missed calls? Players are getting pushed when driving and arms getting hacked when going up for shots. There is nothing to adjust, these are fouls in any era, in any league, under any rules.

The current parity is great. There's no clear championship team.

The product is actually watchable with a lot of skilled offensive players with players that can actually play defense.

I can still call them soft and a bunch of cry babies despite loving the current product right now. Would you be surprised if the NBA reverses the way how the game is officiated ? I wouldn't because I expect these cry babies to complain to Silver nonstop until it does get reversed.
