(I know Bates won't be eligible until the 2023 draft, but I figured we needed a draft thread so,)

That's one of the least impressive physical profiles I've ever seen from a top NBA prospect.

He'll be good. I love skinny kids who don't back down physically. You know they're going to get stronger. Add that to his skill level and feel and he looks every bit of a worthy top 3 pick to me.

He'll be good. I love skinny kids who don't back down physically. You know they're going to get stronger. Add that to his skill level and feel and he looks every bit of a worthy top 3 pick to me.

For looking very slim, he can sure use his body pretty well in the post and takes contact well. Granted, he's going up against smaller, younger men, he doesn't look to get pushed around super easily. I was pleasantly surprised about that.

Durant is also 6'11" with a 7'5" wingspan.

Sure, but he's always been a mediocre defender regardless of his length. I just don't worry too much about wingspan with perimeter prospects as much. Definitely puts a cap on his defensive ceiling, but I'm not drafting him with the expectation he's gonna be Anthony Davis on defense.

If it was just his wingspan I think he would be fine, but the super small hands, below average vertical, and the slow speed(would’ve been the slowest guy at the combine even behind Luke Garza) and his ceiling is significantly lower than what was expected.

He’s still young so he can grow in all those areas but it would be a miracle for him to even become just a below average nba athlete.

Bates looks good to me. No idea if he's going to struggle athletically, but he's clearly a highly skilled player.

He’s skilled for sure. I just need to see more against college guys. The litany of athleticism red flags plus the fact that he didn’t even shoot 40% from the field in high school (or 30% from 3 for that matter) definitely give me pause.

Small hands is an underrated trait. I think it’s the number one thing holding Donte back and why he’s so weak at finishing around the rim.
