The Kuzma/Gafford pairing started off Q1 & Q3 a -11. I guess there were three other starters at that time as well :D

The Avida/Harrell combo was quite good.

Kuzma is dead last on the wizards in on/off differential:

https://www.nba.com/stats/team/1610612764/onoffcourt-summary/?sort=DIFF_NET_RATING&dir=1

Worst on the team in TPA:

Read on Twitter

Last on the team in raptor:

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-player-ratings/

He now has a hilariously awful 47% TS despite chucking up 14 shots per36. I don’t really care what people might think about any of those particular metrics, the fact that Kuzma is last in all of them is very telling. He is terrible.

Did I mention that Kuzma leads the team in minutes played at 276?

Avdija and Kispert have played a COMBINED 231 minutes.

Unseld Jr might be a slight upgrade from Brooks, but there’s no way you can call him an actual good coach until he drops Kuzma from the rotation.

What is really interesting is that Beal isn't much better in this small sample size...

All rotations worked for the most part with the exception of when Beal was in with the second unit in Q1. I still see Wes trying to keep the minutes balanced. It is going to be very interesting when Rui and Bryant return.

Interesting breakdown of the minutes thus far... I didn't see Kuzma being the leader in minutes played. I didn't see KCP playing so few minutes at SG.

Code: Select all

Player                MP    PG     SG    SF   PF   C
Aaron Holiday         151   151     0     0     0     0
Raul Neto             178   146    32     0     0     0
Spencer Dinwiddie     237   152    85     0     0     0
Joel Ayayi              4     0     4     0     0     0
Bradley Beal          285     0   282     3     0     0
KCP                   279     0    33   243     3     0
Corey Kispert          84     0     8    68     8     0
Deni Avdija           192     0     2   121    69     0
Kyle Kuzma            301     0     0    12   280     9

+/- is interesting also against minutes played. I wonder how Wes views these numbers...

Code: Select all

                   MP      On-Court    Off-Court
Isaiah Todd           5    25.0        20.9
Corey Kispert        84    23.9        24.0
Joel Ayayi            4    16.7        12.5
Deni Avdija         192    10.8        11.7
Montrezl Harrell    274     8.8        11.9
Aaron Holiday       151     8.2         5.9
Raul Neto           178     3.6        -1.2
Bradley Beal        285     3.1        -3.3
KCP                 279     2.1        -5.7
Kyle Kuzma          301     0.7       -10.9
Spencer Dinwiddie   237     0.5        -7.9
Daniel Gafford      129    -0.7        -6.9
Dāvis Bertāns       118    -5.6       -13.6

Notably, that Beal with the 2nd unit lineup was extremely effective at the end of the 3rd quarter - our most effective shift of the game.

The Dinwiddie, Neto, Beal, Kispert, Gafford rotation was ugly. I was surprised that Wes stuck with that rotation for so long.

The starters were solid - especially at the start of the 1st and 3rd Quarters. The end of the stint in the 1st quarter was a bit disappointing.

?

I'm not seeing a single second with that 5-man combo. Kispert never played the 4. I think you meant to say Kuzma instead of Dinwiddie.

Oops.. Neto, Beal, Kispert, Kuzma, Gafford

Looking back - Kispert/Kuzma don't seem to be a good rotation - yet.

So, our rotations are fine now, but we'll have 3 players returning in maybe a month: Rui, Bertans, and Bryant. Time for a trade.

I think this team can compete for a championship if they move Kuzma. That’s the real weak spot moving forward.

I really think they should just roll with Bertans (when he’s back) and Avdija at the 4, and let Kispert back up KCP at the 3. Kispert has really surprised me. He’s a really good young player.

I still like Rui’s upside, so I’d be fine getting him back in the mix. Kuzma is just deadweight IMO. If Unseld figures that out, this could be a special team.

I love to look at lineup data for whatever reason, and the 3 man duo of Kispert, Avdija, and Harrell has a 31.9 net rating in 45 minutes of action. Avdija is actually featured in all of the top five 3 man lineups. He’s been a MASSIVE positive.

Our worst lineups all feature Kuzma.

Our top 2 man duo has been Kispert and Avdija with an absurd 29.9 net rating. Kispert is featured in all of the top four 2 man duos.

Bodes well for the future that your last couple 1st round picks have a massive positive impact

I think this would be good for Wes as well. It kind of takes him out of an uncomfortable situation. I say that assuming we would still have a 10 man rotation which seems to be what Wes likes.

Popcorn isn't up for this game. But I hated the rotation where Neto and Holiday were in the game at the same time. I liked when KCP was guarding Rubio (not so much for the two small guards).

Popcorn is now up. Random thought - Neto/Holiday combo isn't a good one.
