wow DB...you're jumping way over the re-tool fence to full "
the process"
I have hated Olshey's tenure but I'm not at a full
tear-it-all-down position...yet. I'd like to see at least an attempt made to put a better team around Dame; one that isn't anywhere close to Olshey's vision of what a roster should be. Now, I'll admit, it may be too late. Too many years of Dame's prime might have been wasted, and Portland's collection of trade assets, other than Dame, might not be sufficient to do any more than rearrange deck chairs. The time for those all-in moves was 2017-20 and 2022 could easily be
too-little-too-lateit might already be a sealed deal anyway because the way this season is going, it could very well be there's a
trade-me demand from Dame waiting in May, if not sooner. I've already said I think it would be the worst kind of stupid if Portland trades Dame and then tries to build a team around CJ. If it does come to that, then not only should Dame be shipped out for as many picks and promising young players as possible, than the same should happen with Nurk, RoCo, Powell, Nance and any other player over 24. By far the best potential asset the Blazers could land in that situation is 2 or 3 or 4 high draft picks from being a bad team. The process
now, that might mean Dame would not necessarily be traded to a contender. I really wouldn't like that because that's absolutely not what he deserves. But that's where some imagination from a new GM would come in handy in constructing a multi-team trade so those re-build assets head Portland's way. Teams in that situation tend to not get more than 50 cents on the dollar anyway (at most). Blazers shouldn't expect more
I know this, after everything I've seen from the Blazers in the last 7-8 years, and especially the last 5 months, if Olshey survives this current mess and is still the Blazer GM in the new year...I'm out. Won't bother watching games and won't be a Blazer fan. Maybe not till new ownership.
