Completely disagree. You start DeRosa at 2B, and Theriot is a backup.

With your scenario, Theriot would be displacing a guy like Murton or a decent free agent (a la Xavier Nady) who would come cheaply. Murton/Nady are much better offensive players than Theriot, and I imagine about a wash defensively.

Of course this is extremely premature re: A-Rod, but Theriot might be replaced at SS even if A-Rod doesn't come.

A-ROD AGENT A 'CUB $COUT'
Link

"September 23, 2007 -- A new report says Alex Rodriguez's agent has spoken to a potential new owner of the Chicago Cubs about a bank-breaking deal that could give A-Rod a cut of the team.

The powerful Yankee third baseman is eligible to opt for free agency 10 days after the World Series ends this fall. And, New York magazine reports, super-agent Scott Boras is already talking to who he thinks is the favorite group vying to purchase Chicago's first-place team.

A-Rod has three seasons left on a 10-year, $252 million deal with the Yanks but has the right to become a free agent after this season ends.

According to the magazine, Boras is peddling a Second City deal that could go for an average of $30 million a year over 10 seasons, with much of that cash backloaded for the 32-year-old Rodriguez - who would then be given the right to buy a chunk of the Cubs at the contract's conclusion. The report does not indicate who would pay for this proposed, precedent-setting deal.

The Tribune Company, owner of The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times and Newsday, announced in April it was seeking to break off the Cubs from its media empire and sell the team after this season.

As much media BS there is about A-Rod, I highly doubt hes a guy that needs extra motivation to play good baseball.

But then again who knows what gets these guys tickin'.

all I can say is wow!!!

That would be a tough team!

To add a player with that kind of fire power would really help our team. Look at all the close games we lost because we don't score enough runs....wow

I kind of don't like the idea of A-rod having part ownership.

Sounds like it's all BS to me.

In particular, look at Yankee exec Randy Levine's comments toward the end.

ESPN is doing all they can to keep A-Rod in New York.
They don't want their team to get worse.

The good thing is that it is pretty well known about A-Rod's feelings toward playing in New York. He probably want to come to a winner, and a team that can offer him the big bucks.

Being a Cubs fan for my entire life I can honestly say that I don't think I've ever heard the two words "winner" and "Cubs" in the same sentence. Unless it's something like, "The Cubs are not winners."

I would bet against it...it could only be a very small ownership stake. People do not like parting with assets like that...unless he was going to sign at a discount.
