Rich Paul: 76ers Have Exacerbated Mental Health Issues For Ben Simmons

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Nov 12, 2021 1:23 am

Ben Simmons believes the recent actions from the Philadelphia 76ers are exacerbating his mental health issues, Rich Paul told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

“I truly believe the fines, the targeting, the negative publicity shined on the issue — that’s very unnecessary and has furthered the mental health issues for Ben,” Paul said. “Either you help Ben, or come out and say he’s lying. Which one is it?”

The 76ers told The Athletic that is "absolutely not" the case.

The 76ers say they have been fully supportive of Simmons’ process and have worked to provide him with all possible resources.

I think you haven't been watching how the Sixers (front office, coach, players and fans) have been treating him over the last year. Always being shopped around, publicly making him the scapegoat and God only knows how they have treated him behind closed doors and behind his back.

This has been beyond repair for quite some time and the Sixers are only interested in forcing him to play to increase his trade value. It will not happen. Every NBA team knows their dirty laundry so to speak and won't offer more than they are already offering, period. I said before in a different post but if I was Ben and am forced to play, there would no reason to play well and increase my value. No way I'm helping a team get more for me after they basically gave up on me.

Here you go Rich - Ben, you're lying.
This is hardly even fair, the rest of the league is playing checkers and Danny Ainge is playing 12-dimensional chess.

I’m with the Sixers on this one. Both sides have done some foolish things, but Ben has been a complete baby through the entire situation.

Just trade him already.

What a crock. The guy is being paid millions to put a ball through a hoop in a league where players are traded. Now we have to be careful not to hurt their feelings cause they can pull out a mental damage card. This is ridiculous.

Mental health issues will disappear all of a sudden after he gets traded… wonder what new disorder some shrink will think of: “Simmons Disorder” for anyone who’s a whiny baby at work.

Is it just pure coincidence that the two most prominent mental health cases in recent NBA history have both been with the 76ers??

Markelle Fultz had this out of nowhere mental block that many referred to as "the yips" where he pretty much forgot how to shoot a basketball. Now we have the Simmons situation.

Probably just a coincidence but interesting none the less...

Hey Rich, they already said they think he’s lying.

Mental health issue develops when Simmons realize he couldn't get paid by not reporting to camp. Sounds more like a financial health issue.

“In this case, we have to get Ben help and not put finances above mental health,” Paul said.

OK, so maybe he should retire and then he can get away from the 76ers and the pressure and the media completely?
Put his mental health first, right?
Oh wait, what's that? Rich Paul doesn't get paid if that happens?
Nevermind then just keep blaming the 76ers for everything and hoping they eventually cave to your unreasonable and noncontractual demands

When it comes to mental health I have a clear understanding from my own personal experiences.

Having lost my twin brother at an early age has caused underlying depression, and after the 9/11 attacks I’ve been diagnosed with PTSD. I have sought professional help in both therapy and prescribed medication.

The whole point of the above- at no time did I stop enduring, living, or working. How many people out there who are much worse off than me can say the same? I’m sure plenty.

I’m not doubting that something is going on with Ben, but it’s time to face it and conquer. This is a character issue more than a medical issue. He has every resource in the world at his disposal to persevere and yet he wallows. He has a real opportunity to be a voice in a very important issue. Take charge kid.

Um, no. The Raptors never said once that they didn't know if they could get to the finals with Pascal.
All of the trade rumours came from sources outside of the Raptors. It came from teams who wanted to lowball the Raptors, thinking the Raptors would bite since Pascal has been inconsistent from the bubble onward. The Raptors never once said that Pascal was on the trade block, nor did they force him to play to up any trade value.
Look at Pascal's body language as he cheers on his teammates in the Sixers/Raptors game tonight. Is that a disgruntled player? I don't think so.

there are numerous reports of him being disgruntled at various times and hes had tons of altercations with the coach. We've known theyve been open to moving him since the bubble. we've seen the way they interact with each other, its obvious. and the coach did win a finals with siakam he had 26 and 10 in the clinching game. and the team didnt force him to play because he has a contract to play basketball, theres only one player who doesnt respect that deal they signed and wants to get paid to mope.

regular occurence

they also did use the #4 pick in the draft on a guy at his position, unless you think siakam is a 6'8 center long term.

this all stems from doc rivers giving a brief, honest answer at a press conference after a crushing defeat in which simmons melted?
