https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/pelicans-exec-david-griffin-ex-coach-alvin-gentry-had-to-be-separated-after-recent-game-per-report/

New Orleans Pelicans executive vice president David Griffin had a confrontation with Alvin Gentry, their former coach, after a recent game against the Sacramento Kings, per Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer.

Griffin fired Gentry at the end of the 2019-20 season, following the Pelicans' disappointing showing in the NBA bubble, and replaced him with Stan Van Gundy in October of 2020. Eight months later, Van Gundy was gone, with first-year coach Willie Green in his place, a fact that Gentry, reportedly noted during this exchange on Oct. 29.

According to Bleacher Report, Griffin greeted Gentry, now Luke Walton's lead assistant in Sacramento, and things went south quickly. Gentry apparently hadn't been pleased to hear that, in his last season with the Pelicans, Griffin had remarked, "I give Alvin all the answers to the test, and he still fails," as reported by NOLA.com's Christian Clark in September.

From Bleacher Report:

After the Kings defeated the Pelicans 113-109 on Oct. 29, Griffin approached Gentry in the bowels of Smoothie King Center to offer a warm hello to his former head coach, yet Gentry brushed off his initial efforts as inauthentic.

From there, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the incident, Griffin denied the findings of the NOLA.com article, particularly his "answers to the test" line, and the notion that he played piano for Williamson during the team's bubble stay in Disney World.

Gentry responded with his own choice words, noting how his eventual replacement, Stan Van Gundy, who was also fired after one season in New Orleans, finished just one game better (31-41) than the Pelicans did under Gentry (30-42) the year he was let go. "You must not have given Stan the answers to the test, either," Gentry shouted at Griffin, according to multiple sources, and the two men had to be physically separated.

He spent a lot of time workshopping that one.

Would have been great here and fit in seamlessly. How many of these young guys entering their prime will we pass on in FA? You’d think after doing it for Randle we would have learned it’s worth it :dontknow:

Nah, it was there for him on a silver platter. How can you NOT throw that back in his face?

Anyhow, Griffin is a putz for even trying to make nice with Gentry who he backstabbed. Gentry is respected in the league particularly by Black players and coaches. I’m sure that’s coming back to bite Griffin in his racist azz.

Miami lost and despite how bad our starting lineup looks right now we are only 1.5 games out of first.

Now is the time to rally the troops and get back on track.

Which is exactly why this d-bag Rasho took the time to attempt to slight Gentry and lowkey defend Griffin. They are one in the same.

1.5 games out of first. 2 games out of second-to-last. 3 out of dead last.

Buckle up.

Gentry's comeback was funny.

I meant he had a lot of time to prepare himself since the article implies they haven't had contact since Gentry was fired, you racist pos (both of you).

i think they thought they were getting him. they traded up to the pick right after he was taken and must have had some information he would be there. i think they planned to take quickley too with the latter pick but when maxey was taken they were worried they would lose both and just took him early. at the time everyone was surprised quick went that early.

and one and half out of seeding too. That density in the rankings will thin out some as the true records of the teams show where they are really at

Therefore, the momentary parity in the rankings should be more of a concern than a positive if you’re a team that is presently in shambles. The Knicks are in shambles right now
