Maybe if you need a point guard for one game, they'll definitely play that one game and take that point guard at their peak. Then maybe maybe Kyrie could be 4th.

Re: Iguodala says Kyrie Irving is top 4 point guard of all time
You're saying he couldn't even get a team to the playoffs by carrying the team as the #1 guy, that's a blatantly false claim easy to disprove. In his first season with the Celtics, Celtics were on pace to be #1 seed in the East, ended up #2 seed after he got injured. In his 2nd year with the Celtics (the disappointing season), Celtics still ended up #4 seed. In both years, Kyrie was comfortably the Celtics best player. Using the Cleveland Cavs team record against him is laughable, that roster was a horrible, lotto bound roster, it's disingenuous to use that against him. KD played 35 games for the Nets last season, Nets had a terrific record last season with Kyrie as the #1 option.DusterBuster wrote:DarkXaero wrote:You don't gotta make up false stuff, my guy.DusterBuster wrote:Gawd... so freaking overrated. The guy had good handles and was a creative scorer but couldn't even get a team to the playoffs by carrying the team as the #1 guy. The only success he ever had in the league was as a 2nd best player... that's not Top 4 PG All Time material my guy.
What's false? Cleveland was a perennial Top 10 lottery team before Bron. The Celtics were nothing special and he barely ever played with them due to injuries... Tatum carried their playoff success. Then you have the Nets which are clearly carried by KD.
Soooo.... not seeing what's made up here?
This is the problem having an argument on Kyrie's value as a player. He's such a disliked player across the NBA by fans like you, that objectivity is lost in most arguments when it comes to Kyrie.

I don't know if you've noticed, but Nets fanbase is not happy at all with Kyrie these days. I've publicly blasted Kyrie for his vaccine refusal stance here and elsewhere.DusterBuster wrote:DarkXaero wrote:You're saying he couldn't even get a team to the playoffs by carrying the team as the #1 guy, that's a blatantly false claim easy to disprove. Kyrie is turning into a modern day Stephon Marbury. The main difference is young Kyrie played with prime Lebron while young Marbury played with young Garnett.

Re: Iguodala says Kyrie Irving is top 4 point guard of all time
I dont think there are more 4 point guards in league history who can do what Kyrie did to the Warriors in the finals, and to several teams in the playoffs. Id put AI up there, on second thought (he was traditionally a shooting guard but meh not gonna get into this meaningless discussion).
I think Kyrie can play a Stockton type role for a year and do just fine like John did. But I doubt Kyrie has the mental longevity that John did to be able to keep playing that type of system, for 15 years. Not sure if thats the argument though.
I think Kyrie is wildly underrated purely from a skills standpoint. And deep in the playoffs, that's when it results in impact, if your team is strong enough to collectively carry you there. Kyrie has been on some great teams, and some bad teams.
His basketball offhand skills (I had to term this carefully for the trolls) are the skills part to me that are ahead of their time. I've only seen Kobe have that left hand, and to a certain degree Jrue/Vince, but Kyrie is by far the best of them all, and that's ridiculous.
I see where hes coming from. I dont think there are a lot of guys who are 6'3 who could have done well against those statistically great Warriors defensive team, multiple years. He may not have had the most efficient series, but the game slows down in the playoffs, and he was still able to get buckets in isolations, while setting up a decent amount of plays for his teammates.
There are just not many championship level point guards you can say that about, vaccinated or not.

Igoudala is wrong.
He’s top 5 or so now, might crack top 30 all time pg when he actually plays.

Re: Iguodala says Kyrie Irving is top 4 point guard of all time
People who discredit Kyrie as a point guard is confusing to me.
Do you reject Steph as point guard of his team, but rather Draymond? Steph typically spends more time off ball than Kyrie does.
Just because it doesn't fit your all or nothing traditional box doesn't mean it isn't a viable option to achieving the objective of playing winning basketball. I mean, Kyrie won a title as a POINT GUARD.
Lebron was not the only point guard on that team. The media and realgm fans made a big deal about him transitioning to point guard on the Lakers "for the first time in his career". We can't have it both ways.
There is no real such thing as point guard anymore. There are playmakers. When you're a small guard, you need to justify that size. You can be a threat by setting the tempo (Steph) and/or dominating scoring in isolation (Kyrie), shooting (Kyrie/Steph), and off ball (Steph).
I think Steph is waaaaaaaay more impactful. But Kyrie (Lebron, Lue, defensive scheme and co) somehow took one from him as one of the primary players. Thats how creative of an onball player he is. And he did use that skill to make plays for others, which is a skill hes massively underrated for despite a decent assist average (Kyrie 5.7 career to Stephs 6.5, where Steph has played with Klay all his career lol).

As if there isn’t a PG currently playing who just led his team to the finals at 36 and is the ONLY player in NBA history to have 20K points & 10K assists

The obvious caveat is that he can't lead a team to the playoffs that isnt capable of playoff success without him. In 4 years the Celtics made 3 conference finals, the one year they didnt was the one Kyrie was healthy. Didnt have a significant effect on regular season win totals either

Re: Iguodala says Kyrie Irving is top 4 point guard of all time
I can understand why players rate Kyrie higher than fans. His dribbling stands out and a lot of people name Kyrie when using an example of a quick and shifty guard who is hard to defend. I can imagine getting put on skates leaves a bigger impression than point guards with a more complete and technical game. I guess Kyrie being a big part of the 2016 title also plays a significant role. Winning championships is also the main reason IT gets so consistently overrated and Iguodala also buys into that.

Re: Iguodala says Kyrie Irving is top 4 point guard of all time
Really hard time seeing Kyrie as a top 10 pg of all time. Magic, Oscar, Steph, CP3, Nash, Stockton, Frazier, Kidd, Payton, Billups, Isiah, Cousy, and WB are all clearly ahead imo. Then you also have guys like Parker, Lillard, DJ, KJ, Porter and a few others. Having Kyrie outside the top 15 is perfectly reasonable.
