I think this is the right usage on KP. KP is truefully unicorn catching ball in traffic. While teams are preoccupied with Luka, KP get a clear mismatches with guards in paint a lot of time. I think KP should hit 60-70% from 2P with some occassional opened 3s. And saves tons of energy for blocking shots and rebounding on the other end. Dictate the mismatches. There're not much Gobert and Capela in this league right now. Back-to-basket or one-on-one against quicker guard are just not a good efficient way for KP to score.

SAS is bad in paint defense. Demoralize them and go home early. The first two times matching up, the Mavs is not playing up to standard. Not chance the score is even closed by closing minutes.

I think the coaching staff knows that. They're probably just worried about his health if he plays 5 for extended periods so they choose their spots.

KP needs to keep playing like tonight to drive his trade value up.

This is the first good game the Mavs have played all season. Sure, the Spurs are bad, but the Mavs are clicking on all cylinders.

Let's keep KP out there. He looks confident, mobile and showing exactly why he needs to play 5. Unlocks everything on offense.

Great game… finally hitting some open shots… hey Kidd don’t be like Rick. Play the young guys the last 5 minutes if we are up by 20

Didn't really watch the game, but I see that Kidd changed the starting lineup and it paid off (EDIT : Nope, only when I watched). Who would have thought of that? It only took 11 games to notice too, that's fast.

Seems like everything was clicking. Now let's beat some good teams.

It's always weird when you can't tell apart Luka's 3s and FTs : 5/11 vs 4/8.

Finally was a great game to watch. KP amazing on both ends and DFS also making his open looks. And signs of playoff Luka. Maybe he's slowly waking up. GG

He didn't. But DFS hitting his shots helped a lot.

Our best lineup is still KP at the 5 with Luka and Brunson at the guard spots.

Also KP played like a true big today, rolling to the rim with frequency.

Oh Yeah. Powell wasn't playing with the starters when I looked, KP was at center and Ntikilina was there, which I thought was nice. Powell just played 17min so can barely be called a starter.

But now that I look more at the box score, I see that the bench still killed it. +23 from Brunson and Bullock.

Luka Doncic filled the stat sheet and then some in a 123-109 win over the San Antonio Spurs, scoring a game-high tying 32 points (11-of-23 FG, 4-of-8 FT), 12 boards, 15 assists, two steals and just two turnovers in 36 minutes.

He flirted with a triple double by halftime with a 16/7/10 line heading into the break, and this would have been nearly perfect had he not bricked half of his free throws. Still, if that’s the only blemish, fantasy managers will sure live with it. However, his free throws are seriously killing his value, as he was taken top-3 basically everywhere and is only a top-75 guy to to his 68.1% mark from the line and his 4.2 turnovers per game, but he did take care of the rock tonight. It’s safe to say that regardless of killing a couple of your categories, Luka is still so much fun.

Yeah, everyone played well except THJ who shot horribely, spacing was good, DFS was the good old DFS, Mavs exploited the small frontcourt of the Spurs mercilessly.
It's an important game to have now, because the honeymoon is over, and the Mavs will start playing the big dogs now, a stretch of tough 7 games including twice in phx and twice in LA against the Clippers.

I am worried that the lone great move by the Mavs will be walking away at the end of the season... or be overpaid.

He is looking great.

I think the game vs Celtics was the best game of the year.

Wow, you missed an assist fest from Luka to KP.

Yes but without Murray, Porter, Ayton and Kawhi the schedule isn't too hard... We could finish 5-2 or 4-3 with KP and Luka in best shape.

Yeah, seems like it was fun to watch.

What did they do differently? Play KP at center more? Put them in a pick and roll?

It's weird, because the Luka to KP connection is something that was expected since the trade and yet they've never quite found a way to make it work.

I still think that playing Powell at center isn't helping.
