I don't want him in this starting line-up at all and don't think he's much of an improvement over Okeke off the bench. WCJ is outplaying anything JI ever did at the 4 and Wagner is outplaying anything JI did at the 3.
Trade for a vet with a lower ceiling but way more consistent durability.
you should go back and check some JI highlights. this man is a once in a lifetime defender, either on the perimeter or inside.
only issue with him not being considered as one of the goat defenders are his glass bones, but take curry for example who also fixed his jelly ankles.
if ji comes back and can shoot around 40% from downtown he’s instantly light years ahead of wendell, who does very well rn by himself.
I remember Isaac (although it's growing hazy over the years) and he was a gigantic difference maker on defense. I've got mixed feelings/concerns about his imminent return.
-He was awesome...no disputing that - he could lead the league in deflections, steals, and blocks at the same time. True DPOY guy.
-Will he ever be the same, physically? surgery and rehab are miles ahead of where they were, guys get better, but not always
-Where will he fit with WCJ and/or Bamba? Their combo seems to be working and I do believe it's very complimentary - WCJ makes Bamba look better and Bamba makes WCJ look better. AND, suddenly WCJ is a deep threat AND Bamba is the deep threat we hoped he might be. Historically speaking, Isaac is way better than either of them but I'm wondering if WCJ/Bamba is the best combo of the three
-and then, who might fetch the best return in a trade? If Isaac is healthy, there's no question...you might get a guy like Ingram back in a straight up trade for a HEALTHY Isaac...especially with Isaac's team-friendly contract. Kudos to WeHam for that. They'd have to be tempted to move the best player to create the best team.
I've been high on Bamba having great upside and down on WCJ having a lower ceiling historically, but I like what I'm seeing this year. I have to wonder if the decision has already be made to make Bamba available after pumping up his trade value. I'm not inspired by WCJ as our Center but he sets harder picks, passes better, makes midlevel shots, and bangs bodies on defense...all Bamba weaknesses. I just wonder if Isaac is too similar to Bamba, at least in terms of body type and physicality to complement Bamba. I don't care how many blocks Isaac had, his defense on the perimeter made him as much a SF as anything on defense...Maybe the ultimate answer is Isaac bulks up a bit and is a better Bamba (than Bamba) and Isaac plays Center with WCJ at 4 (the way he is now).
Lots of options if Isaac is healthy and that's a good thing.
