Really looking forward to Coby’s return. I think he’ll fit like a glove into the role of scorer off the bench a la Jordan Clarkson. We desperately need his shooting and the spacing it brings.

This will be super interesting how he fits and what roles he plays, and how much he compromises the defense. At the very least he should be out there when teams start going into a zone or start double teaming Zach/Derozan, and the rest of the team doesn't want the ball.

Somebody needs to give Coby a "What would Denzel Do" braclet to always remind him of what Denzel would do in a situation where Zach and DeRozen are being doubled.

In fact get one for everyone else on the team.

I'm predicting Coby's shooting will be a clank-fest for at least his first 5 games.

I'm surprised how guys have played themselves out of the roles that I expected to start the season. TBJ looked to be a lock at SF. Alize never sniffed backup PF minutes. Green playing PF (and C...crazy). Ayo at SG/SF - which will work for Coby, because Ayo can just shift to be our main backup SF.

I'm really excited for his return because looking at how teams guard us these past two games when we only had one of Zach or DeMar on the court, Coby will make life easier for them in that they can't just simply send doubles anymore. He might be bricking everything as he gets himself into rhythm, but he's been in the league for two years now and should have the reputation of a shooter that you can't just leave open like you would Javonte, TBJ, DJJ, Alize, etc.

I know his PG skills are shaky, but he's still another player who can handle, pass, attack, score, rebound, and shoot - things we're really lacking with that second unit. You surround Coby and DeMar with defenders (Caruso, DJJ, Bradley), and the result should be better than what we had last year.

Him playing should also help Zach and DDR from not having to play 39mpg per game.

Yeah, that's his role, and I really want Zach and DD to only be playing 30-32 a game.

I'm also hoping Coby's return facilitates the replacement of Matt Thomas with a PF/C. I think we could scrounge up someone like a Vonleh or Biyombo.

Welcome back Coby. Now work yourself back into game shape. A few games and some team practices will make him feel more comfortable. We didn’t need your shooting tonight but overall it is needed.

Notes:

- I miss the old hair. There's about 25% chance this is a Sampson and Delilah situation, and he's going to suck now because he cut off his hair. I hope I'm wrong, but I fear I'm right.

- It's a shame we couldn't have secured this game a little earlier. We were in blowout territory before the Lakers made a little run that forced us to go with our starters a little longer. A blowout would have been a good place for Coby to work through the rust. Oh well.

He looks like he gained quite a bit of weight, and seems slower. After getting accustomed to ravenous dogs (Caruso/Ayo/Lonzo/Javonte), it was a bit underwhelming seeing Coby bring that low-motor pace. But alas, I've been in the fella's corner for a while. He needs to get accustomed to this whole new team and do what he does well.

Great to have him back but it’s going to take him a while to find his legs.

I think he is going to be important with his outside shooting especially when we roll with DD and 4 reserves.

We play Houston / Orlando next week. Good opportunity for him.

He was utterly confused out there but that is to be expected. He hasn’t played with this squad which is completely different than last years team and he had one practice I think with them. He was practicing with the Windy City Bulls prior. We know he isn’t the quickest study either. He was overwhelmed on both sides but I watched him closely, he was really trying to learn on the floor. Especially in the second quarter stint. At the end it was blowout time and TBJ and Matt Thomas were taking shots because well Coby will see meaningful minutes at some point and those guys likely won’t at this point, so he took a backseat. If you care rewatch his few minutes after he first checked in and he just looked like a new guy on a job. Once he figures out where to be on the floor, he will look faster again. Hell Vuc was a high IQ player and it took him all the way up to him getting the Vid to start looking comfortable.

Totally agree. I hate Pat’s haircut too. Pretty sure it’s why he got injured.

Although this is counter intuitive I actually thought he looked taller without the hair. I think his hair was disproportionate to his head and almost made him look smaller? Or maybe that was just me lol.

On a team full of dobermans he sorta looks like a lap dog. I've defended him but he's going to have to get up to speed quickly and start taking and making shots because he's got Ayo pushing for minutes and already fully integrated. White is not going to impact the game outside scoring so he needs to do that and do it efficiently. If he can there's 15-20 minutes a night for him but if he can't I'd assume he's frozen out most nights unless the Bulls just are getting blown out, nothing is working and you tell him to go in and just start jacking.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

This is a good point — when he was out there in garbage time, it looked like he was playing last season’s offense if that makes sense. The dribble hand offs and then cutting to spots that are already occupied expecting a pass back. The offense isn’t radically different, but it’s different enough that he might’ve gotten open but he needs to move to different spots. I think it just takes practice and getting more comfortable. Glad to see him back out there!!

If there's good news it's that his role is simplified. I think it will take about 10 games for him to get his conditioning and find his 3pt stroke. I expect repeats of last night until then. He will, at least, require his defender to stay out of the paint to give DD some room to work.

I like Coby's haircut. It makes his arms look longer.
