San Antonio trades: McDermott, Young, 2024 2nd

Why for Cleveland: Add a much needed lethal shooter on the wing and improve front court depth (Love looks washed to me). Save lots of money next year.
Why for San Antonio: get a 1st for taking on extra salary next year, get mcdermott's 3rd year off the books

McDermott is dare I say a better version of Love now? Don't really want either.

I'm not opposed to taking Love. But this valuation isn't right. It'd be a 1st for the extra salary and a 1st for the talent upgrades or significantly lower protection on the pick.

Instead of the 1st, HOU and SAS 2nds, they are looking like top 5 SRPs, and 2 future 2nds.
I'd also route Young to a team needing PF for more future assets (Indy for example for Lamb to Cavs Craig + 2nds Spurs).

I can see the logic, I just don't think it's enough.

Love can't guard PFs, so he's really not getting a ton of minutes. Thad Young has been better than him this year and last year.

Yeah I was trying to think of a better defender, but probably is easier to just get a shooter. My question is what is Beasley's current value. Because right now trading him for a useful expiring player like Thad feels fair as is. But obviously if Beasley starts playing well again and teams are willing to overlook the off-court stuff he should have a little positive value.

I also don't think Minnesota does this as it severely hinders their spacing.

I'm not sure how much this actually benefits the Cavs outside of some additional depth. McDermott would be fighting for playing time with Cedi Osman who is having around the same type of season as McDermott. When Lauri is back from Health and Safety protocols he's going to go back to being the starter.

Value wise, I think it's about right, though the only savings the Cavs get is likely in regards to how far, if at all, into the luxury tax they'll end up since they'll be trying to resign Rubio and Sexton this offseason.
