Is Jokic the most complete offensive player ever?

Post#1 » by Peregrine01 » Mon Nov 15, 2021 3:30 pm

It might sound ridiculous to ask but before reflexively rejecting, think about it. Has there been anyone in NBA history with the combination of low post play, touch around the rim, pick and roll ability as a roller AND handler, all-time great passing and Dirk-like shooting as him?

Hes up there for sure. KD usually gets that nod though.

KD doesn't have the low post scoring game that Jokic has and most importantly he is no where near the passer.

I can't really think of a more complete one spontaneously.

There's nobody who has such a long list of offensive skills he's above average to elite at. Jokic is the most complete offensive player ever.

KD does have a low post game... he just doesn't have a low post power game like Jokic. Passing wise, hardly anyone can keep up with Jokic there. Jokic also can't keep up with KD creating his shot off the dribble from the perimeter.

Good pick. Though I don't think Lebron has the post game or shooting that Jokic has. Jokic's ability to spread the floor as a C is even more valuable because it opens the paint up for the rest of his team. He's like Dirk with an unstoppable post game and savant-level passing.

I'd have to look at the low post stats but my guess would be that KD is pretty effective from the post despite not having to regularly dig into an array of moves down there... As a passer Jokic is world's better, but similarly as a pull up or off the dribble shooter Jokic can't compare.

I agree there. The question is whether anyone can match Jokic's abilities in all the offensive categories. It's hard to think of any.

Jokic has the ability to shoot off the dribble from the perimeter, while KD simply cannot power through big men in the low post. Jokic is a more complete offensive player than KD, but comparing the array of skills of two players doesn't mean much when deciding who the best offensive players are.

This season, Jokic is scoring in the post at an eFG% of 60%, KD is at 54%. Surprised KD is that high, but he's also doing that on a lot less volume.

Magic had the post game, shooting and passing. His only weakness was the three.

Jordan could pass if he wanted to. Shooting the 3 he could do it if he was born a little later
Bird had an all around game.

Bird, IMO, might be the best contender. But Bird didn't have the isolation scoring ability that Jokic has. When Denver has nothing going for them they just throw it down to Jokic who batters his way to the rim like Shaq.

Arvydas Sabonis.

Great passer, great on the high or low post, great shooter, he had it all.

His athletic limitations still puts a ceiling on his ability to score off the bounce, which is something I'm surprised people are ignoring. I don't think it's "ridiculous" to ask at all, but that's something that still prevents him from ever reaching the volume scoring capability of the Jordan/Lebron tier. "Dirk with much better passing" is still a bit too hyperbolic for me (prime Dirk was a much better athlete), but if Jokic continues to be a 38-39% 3PT shooter, then maybe this is just who he is now?

He is up there in rarified air.....I would say no because....I would just say I can’t imagine him being the most complete player but what can’t he do great offensively? But the truth is there are a few guys that are just as complete. MJ, magic, bird, KD and dare I say harden with the old rules....

Lol, maybe if he was 6'4 and could also post up as a guard. Paul does work in the post though, not back down, but he can post up and get that face up jumper.
