Lol that's a really funny way of putting it...yeah it's bizarre. Like, he SHOULD be this athletic beast but he's just not for some reason.

I thought that back in Summer League but then in his good run during the first 8-10 games he had some really powerful dunks. I'm missing those dunks lately.

He has powerful dunks when he's open.

He just can't dunk on people.

He also takes off too early his footwork is lacking He has no eurostep

I am fully confident he will be dunking all over people once he learns body control. Dudes built like a bull

Its not body control he's just not explosive and just not quite long enough. A little more size and or e,plosiceneas and hecwould be there but he's la king in either aspect. Too bad he could be a beast.

He's got a 7'3 wingspan.

If you look at a lot of top lottery picks that get that role right off the bat when entering the league, they develop a sense of entitlement and don't have that same hunger and work ethic years later in their career. It's good to have to work and earn that spot instead of it being handed to you and it's a big reason why we've been so successful in developing players.

I mean Barnes is totally incapable of handling that kind of usage/responsibility right now anyway. It's not a matter of choosing, he simply can't do it. Which is fine, he's looked great in his role so far and shown flashes which is all you really want. They will bring him along slowly and let his development dictate his role.

Those things can come along, the euro-step with practice and the power dunks by getting physically stronger. After another off-season. meanwhile he can still do a lot of great things, starting with the awesome passing and court vision.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

I'm hopeful, but I wouldn't count on it. I'm happy with what he can provide otherwise though. Most encouraging is his midrange shot and foul shooting. His best asset is his decision making. He's a great imitator and a pretty poor finisher. It's definitely fixable with his size, but it'll be hard to change his mentality. He's not used to finishing through size. Doesn't have a pump fake and doesn't really go up strong. All learnable stuff, but we'll see at this stage.

I can still see him as a lead imitator on a championship team though.

He's settled into a complimentary role since Siakam's come back. I predicted averages of 13, 7 and 7 with a couple of steals and a block. To start the season with Siakam out, his scoring was up, and his assists were down, but now he's getting closer to respectable scoring and solid rebounds and assists and I think that's best for the success of the team. We have guys who are much better prepared to score. The key to keep Scottie engaged will be putting the ball in his hands and letting him make decisions. I think he was also likely tired today.

One thing that I also predict with him, which I'm less a fan of is that he's a highly emotional player and he'll have emotional highs and lows on the court that will affect his play, and potentially engagement. Again, the best way to mitigate that...especially with our guard play, is to put the ball in his hands. I appreciate that the team is taking him out of his comfort zone though. Also good for Fred to hold him accountable.

TLDR; He's got sky high potential even if he doesn't develop his athleticism and aggression, but I wouldn't count on it.
