It is pretty clear why. LeBron was the one that stood up for China during the Morey situation and he wants to come off as a social justice warrior. Of course that is only when it doesn't impact his pocket book.

My G, what dirty work is James doing?

99% of the players don't give a Sht about the China/Taiwan/Hong Kong relationships. Enes is in that right side of that 1%.

It's only that Lebron actually stands to lose the most $$$$, since he and the Jordan brand are at the top 1% of the China market sales.

Kanter actually uses the pulbic platform to not only bring light to his own country but to other social injustices as he sees it.

See Kanter here at a Boston BLM rally,

But why is he singling out Lebron when it comes to NBA's involvements with China? Lebron doesn't broker deals .Kanter is playing for a team who's part of an association in partnership with China. Kanter has nothing to lose by doing this. Dude even went to Silver and asked if he was breaking any rules and Silver said no. So there are no consequences. What would happen if he accused the NBA?

What exactly is he risking right now? What is Xi Jinping gonna send an assassins to take him out at an NBA game?

With the bold you are asking if his life is in danger as of this moment, and the answer is no. But the question I answered asked what he sacrificed.

As to why he singled out LeBron, I think it's a fair criticism (since Kanter's teammates also have Nike deals) and comes down to 2 reasons: he hates LeBron, and LeBron is one of the faces of Nike.

Going after Lebron brings the most attention to the cause, and Lebron asaked for it with his questionble comments RE: Morey's Tweet.
That's the obvious answer. And it's working.
Not like he gonna wear shoes going after Ish Smith for running a Nike camp or something

Kanter plays for an association in partnership with said country he is criticizing. But he opts to go after Lebron. Didn't like what Lebron said. But there are bigger people involved.

Everyone from the commissioner to the owners are involved.

He already made million of dollars, his career is going rapidly down to the toilet, the only way he can draw some attention to himself is to act like se is some kind of activist who "cares" about injustice in China, while the country in which he lives is committing crimes around the world on the daily basis, he's just a stooge for the military industrial complex , he's not brave , he's useful for FOX NEWS, CNN , who are seeking hard for another armed conflict with the foreign country.

Is this really your take here? That Kanter is doing this for “attention”?

How the F does that make ANY sense? Huh?

Yeah - take on China, Nike and LeBron in one fell swoop. I am sure that will GUARANTEE that Kanter gets a great new contract from a team whose merchandise and games will be INSTANTLY banned from China. I can just see the line of GM’s who CAN’T WAIT to give Kanter a big new deal!

But what - EXACTLY - is Kanter HIMSELF getting out of the statements he is making - huh?

Is it making him MORE attractive to an NBA team? (nope)

Is it allowing him freedom of movement into Turkey, China or Hong Kong? (nope)

Is it leading to endorsement contracts from companies who find Kanter’s political statements and positions the kind of thing these companies want to align with? (hell nope)

So…the “attention” that Kanter seems to be looking for is with media outlets, news organizations, and human rights groups who are FIGHTING EVERY DAY to raise public awareness to the repression and genocide of these oppressed minorities. I do not see how Enes Kanter is BENEFITTING PERSONALLY from the stands he is taking. The Turkish government wants to arrest him. I am sure that his position on China will make him toxic as a potential free agent - particularly because he is a rotation NBA player that GM’s can easily pass on (to not deal with the blowback the team will receive from China).

In many ways, he has WAY MORE to lose than a superstar player who will get signed by an NBA team; at least that superstar’s impact on the team’s success would make a team more willing to deal with the blowback that might come from the signing. If Kanter is competing with, say, Bismarck Biyombo for a spot on a team, how will the “attention” that Kanter receives for his strong anti-China stance help him? Huh?

You are literally making ZERO sense, bro. It sounds like you have a problem with people who fight for human rights - because you live in the US (I am also guessing you are probably white) and have NO FREAKING IDEA what it is like to be repressed because of your ethnicity like what the Chinese and Turkish do to these minority groups…or what early Americans did to the aboriginal natives of North America or the African slaves they imported.

I should know better than to get into a discussion like this on RealGM.

So Americans can’t be concerned with other atrocities? Enes is a Muslim who is speaking out on atrocities against muslims in China. He held a rally in the USA the other week to try and get a bill passed related to Muslim forced labor.

He doesn’t “let his country” do anything. He’s spoken out against the president multiple times and has broken ties with his family because of it because he is scared they will be harmed. He didn’t travel internationally due to fear of being detained.

There’s nothing fake here.

He's propped by somebody , somebody is behind him and his fake activism , as soon he goes to CNN I know its fake , CNN is proxy of Pentagon and the State Department , CNN is the most propagandist "news" outlet in the United States, he's getting lots of air time there, so there is an agenda behind all of it . I don't like Lebron as the player or his views on anything in general but Kanter is way worse than him.

Mad respect to Enes Kanter. He appears to have more in common with Martin Luther King Jr than Lebron does, in terms of standing up for people's lives, freedom and civil rights.

I'm too old to wear colorful sneakers like those but I have to admit they look pretty cool too.

MLKj sacrificed. What has Kanter sacrificed? Nothing at all. It’s easy to talk when you have nothing on the line. He is still collecting NBA checks. Wearing Nikes.
What a stupid comment. Kanter has been banned from his home country of Turkey for taking a stand against its government. He gets non stop death threats. I may not agree with him on certain things but there is no doubt he has sacrificed far more than most people.

While i agree that the US have committed atrocious act against humanity and is still doing it you cant care about everything going around in the world it's impossible. Also it's understandable Kanter would target China's treatment of Uyghurs with him being a muslim and all.

Well its not certain that China is committing genocide against Uyghurs , it comes out of the USA Media , also USA is financing Uyghurs to separate from China, trying to destabilize the region, thats how USA operates , they did it everywhere Libya ,Syria ,Venezuela , Nicaragua,Bolivia etc.

My G, what dirty work is James doing?

At the time he was protecting his own interests, yes, but also the NBA's. If the NBA loses China, it's a big deal for every player. Would it be admirable for the NBA and its players to take a stand against China? Sure, but it's also a lot to expect. And for domestic issues, NBA players can have a real impact; for example they were able to get owners to agree to use stadiums as voting locations in 2020. China though? Nothing NBA players do or say will impact any of China's actions, be it with the Uyghurs, Hong Kong, Taiwan, or any other human rights violations. What happens if they take a stance against China? China keeps doing the terrible things it's doing, and the NBA loses a massive chunk of its revenue stream, jobs are lost, and the NBA is in a really bad place.

So this clown is supposed to be brave cause he spoke out against the Turkish government? He risked the lives of his family while he’s making millions in the US and living a good life here in the US. That’s a coward move right there. Go fly over to Turkey and speak your mind there then Imma call him brave.
