No thank you on Wood. Really nice story, he worked himself into the NBA after a devastating draft night. BUt he isn't value anymore. Too expensive and takes time away from Rob/Al.

I don't care about next year's first round pick because the Celtics have too many young players that can't get playing time right now.
If Stevens can package a vet, young players and 1st round pick to add a significant piece then great. If not then just let the young (Langford, Pritchard, Nesmith) play.
This seems good thinking to me. If the owners are willing to swallow the tax hit, I'd like to see the Celtics use the Fournier ($17.14m cap hit) or Thompson ($9.72m) exceptions to bring in a high-end veteran role player or a star on a rookie deal. Horford's playing great now but will he really hold up through the season? Kanter doesn't usually fit defensively, though he does defend Embiid fairly well compared to most centers. Point being, neither vet can be counted on to help beyond this season.
Bringing in a 4/5 or a shooter replaces talent we've been losing, and it gives more flexibility for a bigger deal at the deadline (by filling for someone like Richardson or Nesmith to be moved) or next season. So we're all on the same page, at the Fournier figure we're looking at guys like Steven Adams, Lauri Markkanen and, yes, Christian Wood. Or maybe a shooter like Norman Powell ($15.52m) who can defend some if Portland blows it up.
At the Thompson cap hit? Maybe Jakob Poeltl at $8.75m hit this year, $9.4m next? Or Cedi Osman at close to that hit (w/declining salaries over 2 more seasons) if we prioritize shooting?

Expensive?
He's only 13.7m this season and only 14.3m next season.
It's a good thing if his trade value is low.
Otherwise the Celts will not be able to afford him.
Rob has this tendency to get injured.
Al is old and doesn't really need to play a lot of minutes in the regular season.
Christian Wood is a better option than Enes Kanter.
This season it's looking like the team to beat are Milwaukee and Philly.
Celts are going to need 3 quality big men to defend Giannis and Embiid.

Kyle Anderson seems like the best fit. He doesn't seem to be in the Grizzlies long term plans and shouldn't cost several assets, which Boston is already short on. He's not a high impact player, but can shoot the 3, pass, and defend the 4.
If the team wanted someone like Buddy Heild, they would have resigned Fournier. Heild will cost a draft pick and a recent pick, plus Josh Richardson for salary marching purposes. Doesn't make much sense...

Kyle Anderson will be redundant because of the emergence of Grant and Romeo.
There's a big chance the Celts will face the Sixers and Bucks in the playoffs.
So it's a must the Celts have enough quality bigs to counter Embiid and Giannis.
Kanter was alright against Embiid when the Sixers didn't have Danny Green and Seth Curry.
But this time around, I don't think Kanter will be good enough to guard Embiid because Doc will likely put Kanter in a pick n roll situation.
And if Al or Rob gets in foul trouble or will have to miss games due to injury, the Celts will be dominated by Giannis.

No way!
Let's just wait for Brown and Tatum to fully reach their potential.
They'll be the next Jordan-Pippen.

I like christian wood. Would be a nice fit with the Jays. Same age as them as well. He is inconsistent this season, but would be better here, because he won’ be tasked to be the number 1 or 2 option.

That knee of Jaylen is starting to worry me. If you can find an all-star caliber SF-PF type who's a better fit with Tatum, you do that trade now. Even someone with less scoring but is a better all-around defender and ball-mover.

Jaylen is one of the untouchables right now.

While I can ve talked into dealing Brown, that is jot the package. Imo, detroit gets a steal of a deal there.

In today's NBA, knee issues aren't as dangerous.
CP3's knee has been an issue for a decade now and he's still playing at a high level and one of the most difficult positions in basketball.
Besides, Jaylen's latest injury is a hamstring injury.

The point of this trade is to upgrade the 4th guard off the bench by downgrading one of the Celtic's all stars? Tough sell therezoyathedestroya wrote:Unpopular trade that will get me banned...

Nope, point is to find a better fit alongside Tatum, ideally someone who can take on guys like Durant and Giannis on defense and is a better team defender. I'd' take a younger Draymond Green or Aaron Gordon but better at scoring/shooting?
I admit Grant is a downgrade in terms of individual talent and isn't equal in value with Jaylen. Looking for someone in his mold to be our #2. Other team can throw in more goodies our way to compensate. Bey is just the first name I came up with since he's a ready shooter now. Don't want picks unless it has potential to be top 5. The scoring we lose with Jaylen would be compensated by those two and better ball movement / offensive flow.

That would be my last post on the subject. I was bored and didn't think it through. Now I'm likely exposed as a Jaylen hater.

Damn! We drafted Nesmith ahead of Cole anthony, Bey, maxey and even Bane, who are all playing much better already. Well, nesmith could have taken a leap on a different team and coach probably.

If you want someone to take those dedicated defensive assignments, you sign/trade low for the PJ Tucker/Battier types. You are losing a lot of shooting going from Jaylen to Grant. Players like Grant can't be the second option. That player needs to be a potent offense creator and the good, not great, versatile defense Grant would provide doesn't offset that. He's maybe a third option, probably 4th
Bey wouldn't get big minutes here. Udoka has already shown his stripes, prefering defense first. Romeo and Richardson would still get minutes before Bey. Plus, it's strange to double down on the shooting specialist as Nesmith is already on the team.

That's assuming either DC or Houston would've wanted to trade their star for Jaylen. They didn't.Fierce1 wrote:zoyathedestroya wrote:That knee of Jaylen is starting to worry me. Celts actually don't need to trade any of their top players.
Just use the Fournier 17.2m TPE.
To make room, just dump Juancho.
