Valančiūnas to Dallas

Post#1 » by Pinkyring » Wed Nov 24, 2021 3:53 pm

Mavs in
Jonas valanciunas
Josh hart

Pels in
Tim hardaway jr
Jalen Brunson

Mavs desperately need another big that can score and rebound as well as provide some kp insurance, they get that as well as a solid replacement for thj

Pels add the sg they coveted this summer as well as a pg of the future, Brunson is an ufa but they have his bird rights and i don't see a team with cap in need of a pg, idk the extension rules but i think a 4/52 deal is feasible.

Mavericks remove their spacing for a mediocre starting center?

Mavs will need another move for a guard that can get his shot to replace Brunson so id still add an powell snd green for Eric Gordon deal

There's no way Mavs trade Brunson for 3rd big, Val and THJ are about equal in trade value, Brunson>>Hart.

New Orleans has a glut of guards already. the last thing they need is to subtract from their front court for 2 more

KP and VAL are centers, and the centers DAL when are playing KP is at the 4 are much more mobile than VAL, if you're playing KP/VAL you're playing 2-3 zone, watch last POs.
So VAL is KP backup + insurance, Brunson is Mavs 3rd/4th best player, and the only guy other than Luka that can be trusted with the ball.

NOP were rumored to be the main competition to for THJ in FA.

yea but now they have added Sato, Temple, Graham and drafted Murphy III. Still have Lewis and NAW to give minutes to as well.

To me, DAL has two glaring needs ever since they paired Luka/KP:

1) PG/SG that can create for others and himself, while being a decent 3-pt shooter to pair with Luka/Brunson;

2)PF/C that can rebound and defend the perimeter to pair with KP.

This trade acomplishes none of that while getting rid of one of our best players in Brunson.

This move makes more sense if Dragic is bought out and signs in Dallas.

I love Valanciunas and I'm sure he would have a feast with Luka, I would also like to change Jalen for the correct value, but .... our game is based on shooting many 3s and with this trade ... we only get worse in that aspect. . I wonder what Knicks would think of ...
A) Brunson / Bullock / WCS for Noel / Knox / Dallas 23
or
B) Brunson / WCS for Knox / Robinson / Dallas 23 ..

makes us owners of all our teams, while achieving a solid defensive 5 with a consolidation trade below for that 3 guy we are missing ... Brogdon / Barnes / Ingram/ ...

Mediocre: of only moderate quality

Starting Centers in NBA: 30
Starting Centers clearly ahead of JV:
Towns
Jokic
Embiid
Capela
Gobert
Davis
Bam
Sabonis
Turner
Allen
Ayton

Centers I would take over JV but same tier:
Holmes
Nurcik
Zubac

JV is a center with no argument for top 10 and sits cleanly in the 10-6 range. I would say that is the definition of mediocre when assessing all starting Centers.

I would not pursue a player like JV if my goals were championship aspirations [Where Dallas is] because he can be played off the floor and targeted in the post-season.

I think 10-16 would be classified as average to above average. Personally I would reserve using the term mediocre for starting centers in the 22+ range. Steven Adams is mediocre for example.

If I were Dallas, I'd probably want Tre Murphy in this deal instead of Josh Hart. If THJ goes, then Bullock will start at SG... with Sterling, Green and even Frank all being similar in size to Hart. Murphy can at least be used at SF.

Luka, Burke/Frank
Bullock, Sterling/Green
DFS, Murphy
Porzzingis, Kleber
Jonas, Powell/WCS

NOP season is lost so getting Brunson for a tryout has some value but I rather just get a pick for Val if I was looking to cash out. Trading Val and having Brunson walk is not a possible outcome I want to gamble on for NOP. So maybe a 3 way makes more sense here with Brunson going somewhere with less guard depth that feel like they have a good chance to retain him.

I will continue using Mediocre to describe centers like JV and you can use it for 22+.

We can both agree JV isn't moving the needle for Dallas though.
