SPURS GAME DAY! GAME 17: SPURS VS. HAWKS, 24-11-2021, 7:30PM (CT)

The second of our four-game home stand is versus a streaking east team that does what we have within us to do - take and make more 3s. It's really the big difference maker for us right now and whether or not we make a shift to get our scorers from the arc more shots is up to us. Communication on defense, pushing in transition, movement are all for the most part there, and the next step is adjusting to creating more 3s for our best shooters. It's a missing piece to getting more Ws and the sooner we make this change, the sooner they will come. No time like now.

 no doubt that's a factor. But getting them the ball to take more 3s is the other side of it. I mean, we've had games where we made 12, 15, 18 of them, but you can't do it on like 20 attempts.

DJ, since he keeps talking about how he has to be special every game and is the leader (I will for now refrain about these statements... for now...) must give up the ball and sacrifice his team-highest FGAs for some more 3s by others. Otherwise it's like sticking your head in a bag and saying you can't see or breathe. Just... :banghead:

There has been more chatter on various forums about how Vassell has been treated in our offense by certain players so its not just us that sees it. I'll be looking at that closely tonight. Also I'll be watching for more pouting LOL.

I see them hesitate and not take at least 15-20 threes a night, only to wind up with a contested fade away two that usually bricks. Just shooting would fix everything.

I remember Pop would bench Tony Parker and others for this exact same thing constantly.

I like the energy better to start so far, I like the more 3s taken already, I like the extra passes to get 3s shooters the ball, I like the assertiveness in shooting, I like the deflections on D. Solid start.

Hawks commentators are so biased holy moly. All our shots are difficult, even apparently the open ones, and all theirs are open, just need to make them. Okayyyyy.

1ST Q: SPURS 27

HAWKS 27

Solid start, already 11 3s attempted, most were great shots, but we're missing bunnies at the rim - maybe try fakes, reverse finishes, back door cuts.

No FTs that Q for us...

We can't exchange shots with them, so communication on D is crucial.

Bryn and Drew are carrying the bench so far. Devin is surprisingly cold, Lonnie as expected. We NEED them to step up.

What was that pass by Derrick? **** five-point swing.

I like out O board work, but wish we could make some plays inside like I mentioned earlier if nothing else than to get to the FT line more. Be the aggressor.

KEEP TAKING AND MAKING 3S, SPURS!!!

2ND Q: SPURS 58

HAWKS 65

We gave up a 9-2 run to finish the 1ST Q and give up a lead for a tie and a 15-4 run to finish the 2ND Q to give up a 7-point lead.

We’ve had a couple of bad miscommunications on D for their wide open shots, both dunks and corner 3s, so something to be mindful about. Keldon is BRUTAL on man D when ball handler can dance on him, not necessarily on drives but just dribbling moves that get him off balance and he gives up space and then watches the **** shots with his arms at his sides like a **** T-Rex dinosaur. CLOSE THE GAP WITH A CONTEST AND HAVE YOUR ARMS UP. ****.

Prevent the drives. They’re too easy.

We are very tentative with all our shots down low but for the dunks and putbacks. We need move off ball movement and baseline cuts and reverse finishes to use the basket to help protect their contests.

Towards the end of this Q I thought we settled too much for one and done shots and you can feel the energy draining from us like here we go again with each miss. Play like we did in the 1ST Q, bring up the energy, pass more to the open team mate and crash the boards.

We also heve to get to the FT line more. Get them into foul trouble, get them out of their rhythm.

Keldon D BBIQ is SO questionable Jesus. When his man dribbles on him he gets taken off his defensive stance and almost never bothers to cover the gap to contest or keep his arms up. Just now they stole the ball and ran back hard... to a **** OPEN spot somewhere running RIGHT BY Young who stops and takes a 3. Christ you can't make this up. **** film of what not to do.

Jakob missing bunnies.

We're not getting stops now.

BBIQ BBIQ BBIQ... and hustle.

AGAIN. KELDON GETS CROSSED UP AND DOES NOT RECOVER AT ALL JUST WATCHES THE SHOT OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

Brutal. We're being shown what taking and making shots without hesitation means. We have no confidence. Third Qs are our worst, second Qs are our second worst. True to form still. We need to be the aggressors.
