bird was the boss amongst prime magic and kareem; he schooled the doctor, the badboys and schooled the bulls. bird was hitting dagger championship 3s left and right to send prime magic home and did it all his career. he even shot left handed and was shooting crazysh!!t behind the backboard, etc.. what did those guys do, and against whom and on what stage???
the only one i'd take is reggie. mofos here already forgot miller time?!! and plus, reggie carried his so-so teams deep in the playoffs, something those other guys could not do and never did.

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

OP asked shooters. Not 3 point shooters.

Joe Harris? Ever?? What. The last time I saw him play he couldn't hit a shot in the playoffs even if he was wide open. He doesn't deserve that spot
I got lazy and put the top 3FG% shooters of all time.

Ok, so make an argument, then. You posted your list without any justification, then threw this generality out there.

Re: Top 5 shooters ever
Steve Nash hasto be on this list. He is one of the greatest shooters of all time. He has four 50/40/90 seasons and missed another one by .001 from the free throw line as he finished the season with a .899 and he missed out from another season with his overall fg% was .497
And by sheer volume and degree of difficulty shots, I would take Dirk over any of the stand alone three point shooters a la Korver, Hubert Davis, Kerr, etc. Dirk owned midrange and long twos for nearly all of his playing days.

What do you mean by “pure?”
I was a Michael Redd fan, but little about his very effective, very odd shooting form struck me as “pure.” He pulled the ball back along the side of his head before throwing his shoulders forward and catapulting the ball.
When I think of “pure” shooting, I think of great mechanics with very few moving parts which results in a very easily repeatable motion. Klay Thompson, who had a lightening quick release on top of it, immediately comes to mind.

Re: Top 5 shooters ever
Trying to consider: 3-pt shooting (attempts and %), FT%, off-the-dribble ability, off-ball movement-based shooting, C&S, and most of all "gravity" and how much the threat of their shot affected defenses. The guys who ended up making my top 5 were the ones who I feel hurt defenses with their shooting the most, even when they weren't shooting.

When I say "pure shooter," I'm just talking about shooting, as opposed to creating off the dribble.

Spot up shooters like Korver shouldn't make a list like this. They can't create their own shot and don't take as difficult shots as players with high usage rates who actually handle the ball.

I mean, I get that, but my point is that Redd’s mechanics are far from conventional— there’s a reason why nobody else shoots that way or teaches that form. There was nothing especially pure about his stroke at all. He shot from the side of his head with his body contorting.
His results— 38% from 3PT, 84% from FT— were very solid, but not exactly awe inspiring, either. I guess I just don’t see your point at all outside of the fact that you liked him as a player and wanted to give him a shout-out.

this. Curry has to be first and Nash has to be second. After that Klay and Ray are the next two best all-time bombers and for the last pick it could be any of a number of legends who could shoot the lights out. I too would pick Bird.
