How Far Does This All-Defensive Team Go?
Lets say a GM puts together a team of
Bam Adebayo
Draymond Green
Jimmy Butler
Lonzo Ball
Alex Caruso
Assume an average bench.
Does this team compete for a championship, even with their offensive limitations?

Terrible spacing. Play-in team at best.

Re: How Far Does This All-Defensive Team Go?
Yeah since over half of the teams make it I'd say play in team as well. No one there can put the ball through a hoop really.
Butler is more of a table setter than scorer who misses about 1/3 of the season. Averaged 21 and 20 ppg the last two years as the #1 on the Heat with a ton of 3 point shooter around him for reference.

Not a whole lot of scoring, but will they need it when the opposing team is scoring 90ppg?

Is this just a better heat team? Huge upgrade at pf and slightly worse at guard. Probably a pesky second round team.

The Heat are arguably the best team in the east right now. An upgraded version of them is a monster.

Potentially top 4 in their conference (due to teams mailing in some games and the regular season being undervalued a team of hard workers with talent should easily win more games than they lose and should have a better RS record than the roster should allow).
Might win 1 or 2 games in the first round but ultimately lose.
Edit: If they have homecourt they should make the 2nd round.

Completely agree. That's an excellent regular season team that would be an annoying out in the first round, but simply not enough dynamic scoring.
The current Heat will likely have the same problem this season. Butler is not a good enough scorer to be your #1 on a contender. He would be an amazing #2 for the right guy. Too bad Riley wouldn't give up guys like Herro and Duncan Robinson in a Harden deal.

I'm confused. Title says all defensive team.
Do you mean 3 elite defenders and Lonzo & Caruso?

Understood, but between the low scores from the opposing team and the number of turnovers this team would create leading to transition points, it could make up for a lot of that.

I’ll give Caruso is having a great start to the year, but it’s what a quarter of the way through the season? Pump the breaks.
Statistically both Curry & Harden have better DWS & DRTG than him so far. He’s above average but elite? Nah he’s more Beverley than Tony Allen out there.
Lonzo simply has no business being mentioned in the “elite” category.
Plus how is Chicago not even in the top 10 in team defensive rating with two “elite” defenders in their rotation? What am I missing here?

With a decent coach, Conference Finals. Chi, Mia, and GSW all get worse, which makes it easier for this all defense team.

Caruso and Lonzo have both been playing at All Defense level this year. So obviously the question is a starting lineup of 5 guys worthy of being on an all defense team.
