Also one of the main things people don't know is that downtown LA was a ghost town back in the 80's and 90's. Abandoned buildings, a slew of empty parking lots, not much as far as fine dining and entertainment offerings. After the employees in the area got off work they left the area completely. Alot of critics even laughed that AEG and Ed Roski were purposing an arena downtown. Everything about DTLA changed after Staples was built. It started a chain reaction of high-rises, bars, restaurants, museums, hotels, condos, apartments, lounges, art galleries, etc. Staples Center was ground zero to the revitalization of DTLA point blank. Its not just the name and the games played there but its really about what it did for downtown and the city as a catalyst, game changer, and killer app that made downtown a destination and a place to live and call home.
