How?

How does LAL recoup value for the worst trade blunder in years?

Trae is pretty good off ball and his range gives Westbrook the space to drive.
Having Trae also means the ball is in safe hands and decision-making is top notch, and Westbrook can lessen his workload for the non-clutch minutes.

As for how the Lakers are going to recoup the value, no I don't think there is any way, and these are the best fire sales that I can think of, from their perspective.

Cool. ATL can have Trae stand in the corner so Westbrook can “run the offense”.

Knicks: Fournier + Rose + Noel for Westbrook
Knicks might be the team that most desperately needs scoring.

From what I have read in the NYK section of RealGM, defense is more of a concern than offense.

Fournier and Rose are able to hit three point shots for a fairly good percentage while Westbrook isn't able to do that.

Randle, Robinson, Toppin and Barrett aren't very good three point shooters. I would expect the spacing to be terrible and thus not much room for Westbrook to drive to the basket. They would still have Burks and Quickley to shoot three pointers, but I don't have that as enough to overcome poor three point shooting from Randle, Barrett, Robinson, Toppin and Westbrook.

Find the spreadsheet component such as Calc.

For now, Spotrac appears to be doing the best job with salaries. So navigate to the team page that fits the situation and do a Copy & Paste of the team roster with the salaries.

Add the player(s) and their contract(s) that are incoming and subtract the player(s) and their contracts(s) that are outgoing. Select a spreadsheet cell below the column of salaries that will hold the sum of the salaries. Sum the salaries and compare against the Luxury Tax Line/Threshold.

If there are spreadsheet specific questions, ask.

Westbrook has had 22/8/9 on 57% ts% with 4 to's in the last 10 games..

He's not the problem with the Lakers right now. The problem with the Lakers is missing Caruso, Davis becoming leagues worst jump shooter, and the lack of big wings (exacerbated with Lebron/Ariza out and Bazemore sucking).

Their issue a lack of lunchpail guys and glue guys with size/athleticism that are willing to do the hard work on the boards and defense. It's fixable but they won't trade Westbrook. I hope they trade THT.

I don't see any remotely realistic scenario where the Wolves would have interest in trading for Westbrook. The fit is poor, the contract is an abomination, and he does not fill any of the team's needs.

Not exactly a bargain deal for the Lakers, but imo Westbrook is close to untradeable.

I’m not sure there’s a single team in the NBA that would trade for Westbrook and his 44M contract at this point.

- Can be a great addition to those second tier teams
- Value is at all-time low
- Lakers know it's not working out
- They have literally no other trade pieces (Maybe THT, Reaves?)

So I thought of a few teams that might benefit from buying the dip.

Knicks: Fournier + Rose + Noel for Westbrook
Knicks might be the team that most desperately needs scoring.

Wolves: Beasley + Pat Bev + Prince for Westbrook
I am not sure about the fit with Edwards, but they have one of the greatest shooting big men of all time to stretch the floor.

Hawks: Gallo + Capela for Westbrook
Gives the Hawks a legit scoring option that fits Trae.

I know Westbrook's value differs a great deal among different posters but I kind of see the value in him vs mediocrity treadmill for many of these teams. Thoughts?
This is an easy No from the Hawks.
Capela is the back bone of the Hawks defense.
This trade would make Atlanta a very SMALL team and their is no fit of Westbrook with Trae.
Besides Capela just signed an extension so he cannot be traded.

The Knicks idea could potentially have some merit as the season progresses if Kemba and Fournier continue to struggle. Knicks can justify the trade saying the worst case scenario is they get off Fournier’s deal a year earlier.

I don’t think the Knicks would give up Rose tho.

One of the Knicks biggest problems this season, in my opinion, is that they have too many players who are best suited to be a 4th option. So a consolidation trade could have positive ripple effects in terms of giving guys more certainty in their role - both in terms of minutes and spot in the pecking order.

Westbrook is who he is at this point, but again, the Knicks could potentially justify it if they decide they made a mistake with who they signed this summer as well.

Scoring? It takes Westbrook 17 FGA to score just 20 points, add that to the 5 TO per games. That's not going to win a lot of games.
Rose is shooting over 41% from 3 since his return to the Knicks.
Rose is a better player by the way also Rose cannot be traded until March 3rd because he re-signed using Bird rights with a 20% raise in salary and the Knicks are over the cap.
No one wants Russ on that bloated contract.

I think bench spark should be his role in LA. They don't need what he brings when LeBron is on the floor but when LeBron comes out, Westbrook brings high usage firepower to fill that gap in LA's offense. So use LeBron as PG with Westbrook as 6th man and make sure at least one of them is on the floor at all times. The problem is that they are paying him superstar money and thus the two sides may not be willing to do this more limited role.

I see all the proposed deals as overpays for Westbrook as he exists today.

Can’t see MN moving on Westbrook.

Beverly has been important too for the club so he would be a difficult guy to get.

I'm confused by the vastly different values in the OP packages. Some teams are giving up nothing of value, other teams are being asked to. Why?

As for Dallas, Cuban's public views on Westbrook are well known, so I would expect no interest. Add to what a terrible fit he is with Luka as neither excels off-ball and I think you can eliminate them as a consideration here.

Don’t like most of the ideas because the fit isn’t there. The Hawks should absolutely not take the ball out of Trae’s hands. People focus on his shooting but his playmaking is his best trait imo. And giving Capela because ???

The only one that I think has a chance is Minny. They aren’t giving anything important. Russ/DLo/Edwards/X/Towns would be better than what they have. Comes down to whether Minny wants to build something by being bad a whole longer or sneak into the play in. And whether Russ would be ok playing in Minny.

I think Wolves won't do this for multiple reasons...mainly cap flexibility. Prince & Pat Bev are expiring contracts..trading for Westbrook means Wolves will have him on contract for next year ($47M) that would leave Wolves wth almost zero cap flexibility and would even put them above luxury tax for next season. Not to mention, the on-court fit isn't necessarily the best.

These just don’t make sense.

Westbrook is a 47mil expiring next year, he is massively overpaid, but not for much longer.

That still doesn’t justify the trade or address the problems I pointed out. These teams aren’t simply looking for an overpriced contract that is a season and a half from ending. If they are paying for Westbrook, it has to make sense for the teams getting him, not just make sense for the Lakers.
