Culturally it’s obviously the Jordan 1s.

My favorite shoe is and always will be Kobe’s. So lightweight and someone made the perfect comment, after wearing them all other basketball shoes feel like playing in boots.

I had some of those Reebox DMX cross trainers which are just like you describe: were very comfy but also wore out after about four months of regular use (I had been accustomed to six months for most others). Asics are another brand that didn't last long for me (although I do have a pair of Asics wrestling shoes I wore in seventh grade which I'm saving for my son).

I gotta go with Penny's Foamposites. Still have a few pairs. Hella clunky and heavy but I always loved the design

Shawn Kemp Kamikaze II. With shorts on, they were fugly. They looked good with my jeans. They were hands down one of the most comfortable shoes I ever owned and they were built like a tank. I wore them daily for over three years.

Aside from the top tier of Jordans & Kobes, the Gilbert Arenas shoes were important. They were the first really massively popular shoe that were originally low cut and used by a lot of NBA players in actual games. Everything was high top back then. Since then low cut, lightweight minimalistic guard focused shoes have only grown in popularity so much they're pretty normal now.

I had a pair of Mutombo’s probably early 90’s, wasn’t the best shoe for hooping but I thought they looked pretty slick. We went up camping the first summer I had them and I got them soaked by the dock, my friends grandmother put them to warm by the bonfire and ended up melting 1/2 the shoe. Never been so upset at an elderly woman in my life, lol. But she did have good intentions.
