Looking At those highlights it’s crazy. Only one of his baskets was assisted. The rest of his points are self created. And he’s shooting pretty well from the free throw line.

That floater on top of Turner is so impressive. Doesn’t even need to jump because he’s so tall. I know he’s done it before but seeing him do it over a shot blocker like Turner was great.

I legit think Barnes has the potential to be a 25+ PPG scorer on high efficiency. Look at his handle at 1:33 in the video, I think he has good hesitation potential to go along with his frame.

with all these injuries it's time to experiment Barnes at PG. This team isn't making the playoffs this year and we get another crack at the lottery.

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread
I really need to know the rationale behind Barnes playing such tight perimeter defense because almost every NBA caliber player is capable of easily blowing by him in a straight line drive. One hard dribble and they're clean past him, it forces the defense to rotate right away. I think the Raptors believed he would be a switchy defender like OG and Siakam (who is struggling rn but has shown he can do it) but he really doesn't look capable of containing 1s/2s and some of the quicker 3s.
Overall as impressed as I am about his offense, his defense has been just as big a surprise for how mediocre it is. He doesn't have quick feet or the mobile hips required to play the defense he's attempting. It reminds me of the heavy feet/tight hips concerns scouts had of Obi Toppin and to a lesser extent Karl Anthony Towns coming into the NBA.
He's basically the opposite of what the scouting predicted so far.

If Scottie keeps producing like this, the season will be a huge success regardless of their win total.

Celtics broadcast calling Scottie a young Giannis but already with a better 3pt and FT stroke. #ScottieBarnes #ROTY #WeTheNorth

If he keeps shooting like this from 3 we'll be comparing him to Steph, not Draymond.

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread
I don't think anyone expected 15/8/3 for Scottie after 19 games
Kid is a future star, who plays the game the right way. His production is going to be scary once we start running the offense through him. He's getting his points off the ball, and without anything being run for him. Call me crazy, but I really can see Barnes winning a MVP one day, and being considered one of the better players in the NBA.
That play where he broke Jaylen Brown, really opened my eyes about his untapped potential. It's so scary how he will start a quarter with 2 points, and then just flip a switch and take over the game.

I'd be shocked if he isn't a top-10, maybe even top-5, player in a few years.

Scottie makes this season worth while. He's still a project but god dammit he's exceeded my expectations.
Love this kid.

i am just surprised that he's not better at chasing someone down for the block.
the length is there, the strength is there, the effort is there too. Maybe he's just not getting the timing right.

His ability to elevate has been rather inconsistent. That dunk where he drove past Luka was probably his most explosive move yet but most times he doesn't get off the ground like that.Chandan wrote:AbC? wrote:I really need to know the rationale behind Barnes playing such tight perimeter defense because almost every NBA caliber player is capable of easily blowing by him in a straight line drive. He’s not that type of athlete, he has more slow twitch muscles then he has fast twitch muscles.

He is not mediocre on defense at all. It seems so called blow bye’s occur because of our team strategy - looks like defensive player is trying to lead attacking player into help and after that he tries to pick up helpers man. This might be reason why we see not to many chase down blocks as well.
For me Barnes is one of the most active defenders on the team, disciplined, very High IQ and always first on the close out on 3 point line. Considering he is working his a** off on D , his current offensive output is very pleasant as well.
