Meh. A battle between two play in level teams that will have zero relevance come playoff time if they are lucky to make it.

If the Celts can make a move to improve the team on or before the trade deadline, this Celts team will be more than just a play-in team.

What the Celts have that the Raptors don't is the Celts have 2 star players that can take the Celts to another level.

You put some of the shooters on your team on the Celts, this Celts team will be a top 3 seed.

The Celts are just not good shooting the ball this season.

But that can change on or before trade deadline.

The Celtics were a .500 team last year and are a .500 team again this season, which is not a surprise. The team did not improve from last season seeing as they had to trade their first round pick for the privilege of paying Horford 30M a season. At least Raptors fans know the team is rebuilding with youth while also trying to stay competitive with VanVleet/Siakam. Celtics fans think the team is like a quasi contender or a home court playoff seed. It is hilarious.

Last season the Celts had a flawed team.

This season the Celts got better when they replaced Kemba, Fournier, and Theis with Horford, Schroder, and Richardson.

The problem is the Celts are not good at shooting the ball because the 2 PGs, Smart and Schroder, are really not shooters.

Here's the thing, the Raptors are hoping to get a young star player, like Tatum or Brown, through the draft.
The Celts already have what the Raptors are looking for.

And Celtic fans are not expecting a championship this season.

others have compared them too but i don't see it.

One is 6'11", 240 lbs, the other one is 6'8", 210 lbs. and their games aren't very similar either..

Barnes can shoot a basketball so that's kind of a defining difference..

huh?

Barnes is shooting 26% from 3. Giannis has shot better than that from 3 during 6 of his NBA seaons.

Not to mention Giannis is a more dominant inside scorer/shot blocker/rebounder/defender..

Barnes is more like a Shawn Marion type guy..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

I would hope that the expectations would be that making the playoffs and putting a scare into a contender in the first round would be considered a successful season. The Raptors do not have young players with resumes as impressive as Tatum/Brown, but Anunoby is younger then Brown and while he has not made an All-Star game yet he looked like an All-Star this season. Barnes has looked like he certainly has a chance to be an All-Star level player and is barley 20 years old. The Raptors best days are ahead of them, as are the Celtics. The fact of the matter is that the team is just not all that talented outside of Tatum/Brown.

Lol.. struggling to beat lottery teams on a nightly basis, playing a host of non shooters together, not benching Tatum and Brown when they stop the ball... yeah Ime is a great coach, alright!

That's the negative nancy, glass half empty way of looking at it.

the other way to look at is:

-we're supposedly the worst 4th quarter team in the league yet tonight we played a great 4th quarter, including a 9-0 run so we're showing signs of becoming a better 4th quarter team

-Smart hit a couple of nice 3-pointers, while also doing a very good job of facilitating - constantly finding the open man and giving up a good shot for himself to get a better shot for teammates

-We won by double digits on the road, while playing without 2 of our best players, Rob and Dennis

-Kanter had a very solid game off the bench. Him, J-Rich and Romeo were all very good off the bench - Grant Williams was solid too. All last year everyone b*tched about how we didn't have a bench, how terrible our bench is - it's looking pretty solid right now.

-Struggling to beat lottery teams? lol it's way too early to know who will and won't be in the lottery. The Raptors are a tough team - they've played as good defensively as any team we've played all year. They fight, scratch and claw - and they have some dudes who can flat out shoot. There's no easy win in today's NBA. The Lakers lost to the lowly thunder twice, the knicks lost to the lowly magic twice, the Jazz lost to the lowly Pelicans without Zion, the Bulls just lost to the lowly Rockets and also got blown out by the "lottery team" Pacers. Anytime you win a game in this league, it's a good win. Can't take any team lightly or you get smacked.

Agree.

Raptors have a better supporting cast than the Celts.

It is tough to build a great supporting cast around Tatum/Brown when they are paying Horford 27M. I like Marcus Smart and Robert Williams, but I am underwhelmed by the other players that the Celtics have drafted. I believe that Horford only has one more season after this one left on his deal though, so if the Celtics are able to use that money on a 3rd star while also improving the supporting cast they could elevate themselves into contender status because they have the Tatum/Brown foundation.
