I honestly think if Kyrie doesn't come back this season, or the mandate extends into next season, his career is effectively over. You're not paying out millions of dollars to someone who is a flight risk at any time. He had his issues early on last season, and while it is fine for him to say "hey, I'm not well I need some time", for all we know, the team was blind sided by it and that didn't sit well with ownership...nor should it. Calvin Ridley of the Atlanta Falcons had to step away this season due to mental health, but it didn't cause a firestorm because he informed the team about it and kept them in the loop, and he announced to fans that he simply needed time for his mental well being. No one has an issue with that. But thinking back to last year, when you're minutes away from game time and the coach admits that he has no idea what is going on, that is problematic, and going rogue is a reoccurring issue with Irving which predates his tenure as a Net.
Prok keeps saying it's all gravy over in Brooklyn between the team and Kyrie, but I highly doubt that. Especially when it comes to Joe Tsai and Sean Marks. Kyrie had allegedly told them that he was going to get vaccinated and he never showed up for his appointment. Joe Tsai is paying this guy six figures every time the Nets are on the road to sit at home. I don't care what anyone says, no one will be happy paying someone money to not provide their services to them. If Kyrie truly did say that he was getting vaccinated and reneged, that is about as unprofessional as it gets.
If he sits out the entire season, he's done for not only here, but probably around the league.
