What a horrendous contract. So many different red flags on the guy and they still paid him early.

They really should have re-signed Caruso and not traded for Westbrook. Caruso, KCP, Kuzma and Harrell combined make about $4M less than Westbrook.

I'm still confused why Denver maxxed that dude early.

MJ and Kupchak deserve credit for how they handled Kemba’s non-extension. Was a pretty big call and has far and away been the right one.

How bad has Kemba been? I don't remember him playing more than a couple possessions in each Bucks game thus far. Perpetually feeling as if he's coming back from a serious injury. What gives?

Yup, although not trading the deadline prior was silly on their part.

What's **** amazing is that terry rozier deal that everyone clowned on turned out to be good.

Taj Gibson has missed a ton of games and Randle/Robinson has been a dreadful defensive front-court. Kemba's body is broken down, but even with that, this is a classic "bench the worst defender and hope something changes" scapegoat move from Thibs. I'll give it a good 3-4 months for those Knicks players to start tuning the coaching staff out and the honeymoon period to run its course, aka the Tom Thibodeau/Scott Skiles Special.

Yep. He had one good year, after two injury plagued seasons. And while he was a really interesting scorer, it wasn't like he was a great all-around great player.

Unless the guy is an all-star (then you max him immediately) or he agrees to a decent extension in exchange for financial security, you should always let your RFA's play it out, to prove themselves one more year at least.

We made that mistake with Larry Sanders and Henson if I recall. Both guys had RFA status, and while we didn't max them, they got at the time pretty big extensions given their play to date.

Yeah the Henson and Sanders deals were early too, but it made some sense in that there was a possibility they both have a great follow up year and get a bag....Clearly that didn't happen. With Porter though they just gave him the max amount they could early to be nice to a guy that no one was sure was that good. He's also crazy and incredibly injury prone. When does Jokic ask out?

Honestly though, MPJ was NEVER an interesting scorer. He was massively overrated as a HS talent AND as a draft prospect even if he was never medical red flagged. All he was was an efficient spot up jump shooter, that was his entire skill set. Zero ball handling ability, no off the bounce attack even with the threat of his J, terribly stiff movements with awful hips, Jabari esque as his defensive upside, zero playmaking. Even with a completely clean bill of health he should have never been given that contract.

Valanciunas becoming a god damn sniper from three is not a development I ever saw in his career.
