Imagine tweeting about re-ranking the top 5 picks with a 20 game sample and then telling people 20 games isn't enough for you to change your pre-20-game-sample opinion
You can’t take any of these guys seriously. Even at the highest level (espn, etc). If they were actually good at evaluating talent they’d be GM’s making millions of dollars. If one of these guys were any good at all some team would snatch them up. All of their picks are online and in some cases there are years of draft history. If some reporter/analyst were nailing picks even 3 years in a row some team would take a chance on them.
Chad Ford: caught retroactively changing his picks. Was espn’s “main” draft guy
Kevin O’Connor: would have chosen Killian Hayes 1st overall. Would have been a fireable disaster. Lead analyst at the Ringer.
And those are supposed to be the “best” of major sports media outlets.

Didn’t you watch his college highlights? He’s a charismatic kid and likes to have fun out there. Nothing weird about it.
I don’t really feel any type of way about it but it’s definitely not gonna win him over with guys around the league. Maybe that matters, maybe it doesn’t. It IS 100% “weird” though, because in my 20 years of watching basketball I haven’t really seen anyone do anything quite like it. Usually just the same old standard taunts/staredowns and trash talk. So weird for Scottie specifically? I guess not, but yes, weird in general.

Scottie getting blocked on that stare down was needed. He did that unnecessary **** the last game too - he even slowed down that time.

Man plays with an edge.. let it be. He gets in opponents faces too.. raps probably told him to pipe down on that but once he comes into his own we'll see it again. Barnes plays with an edge.

He probably isn't going to stop. I don't really care if he keeps doing it. Let him have fun. We know as a player he is unselfish so who cares if he showboats. As long as he can back it up it's fine.

he has been stopped more often than not going for the poster. Maybe he needs to reevaluate the average NBA player's athleticism.
at the same time he better not stop going at it.

Stare down or no stare down he was still getting blocked. Its not like he stopped to wait for him, people are over-reacting to that play.

This is a very concerning trend from Scottie that desperately needs to stop.

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread
I don’t really mind the stare downs but doing it on literally every single fast break kinda ruins the fun of it. Maybe do it once in a while and it’s nbd
The one he got blocked tonight is a nice learning lesson, although I actually don’t think it was all that bad since I personally think the result was gonna end up the same.
The one where he ended up finishing in a layup was the more problematic one imo. Yes he scored, but he cut that way too close and turned what should’ve been a very simple and easy dunk into a contested basket
Anyways, it’s not all that big a deal and I’m sure he’s gonna learn from the mistakes and close calls so it should be fine

It's easy to make too big a deal of it. But yah....if his main goal was to score he'd drop his shoulder and go up while protecting the ball with his body. Forget the whole cock-back and spreading the legs and the stare.
But honestly....how big a deal is it really? It's a rookie thing and it's easily fixable.
I agree it looks bad and it's dumb though. Even when he's successful it annoys me.

Ya i don't like that crap either. Glad Alvin called him out on it. He doesn't have the right to be cocky yet, especially in a game where we never led lol.

I will never understand people wanting to not let cocky players be cocky. It's their personality. Let them be who they are. Christ

He’s not being cocky. He’s being dumb. There is a huge difference.

I mean with stuff like this the only difference is if you get away with it/back it up, or not. If you fail while doing something cocky then it's labeled as dumb, but if you're successful then you're just cocky/a showman.

I couldn't care less. Don't try changing these guys. It's what got them here. That confidence and style. You can't have it both ways wanting him to be energetic and lively and then not doing the other stuff that comes with the package. Draymond is screaming and acting a fool win or lose. That's who he is. I'm not even disagreeing he did a dumb move. It is by any measure but I cannot stand these weird attacks on character. Or "earning it". F that. Earn what? Be who you are at all times. Nurse ain't mad and he's clearly a stickler. Why is anyone else?

Is he doing it to have fun or is he worried about getting injured? Those plays always came off to me as him being tentative and trying to avoid the block.

Dude has the potential to be Kawhi offensively given his size/skillset.
That's been my comp since we drafted him. His improvement day to day is such a marvel to watch. He's 100% still a project that needs to be refined in a multitude of areas. But he's flashing so much potential every game, far more than I would have expected.
