Compare how they rebounded from the 2019 Finals to the team they played in those Finals.

Come on, that’s not even fair.

Both teams lost an MVP player… but one got back an asset (Russell —-> Wiggins and a first), still has Steph and Klay and Draymond, had them benefit of all 3 of them missing most of a season and drafting another high prospect, and did not have a Green/Ibaka/Gasol/Lowry who were all in the twilight of their careers.

It’s two very, very different situations, and to be fair we won 59 games the following season.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Yeah, it’s wild how well the 2018 team developed.

Lowry / FVV
Demar / Delon
OG / Norm
Siakam
JV / Poeltl

Easily the best team in the east? We could’ve never made a move for the past 4 years and still would’ve been in a fantastic spot.

LOL that's not the best team in the East.

That team won 59 games and other than Lowry (and Ibaka who started, but Siakam >>>>> 2018 Ibaka), and all of those players are significantly better today.

That’s a really damn good team.

Maybe, maybe not. It’s impossible to say, so for the point of the exercise might as well just assume they would.

Even if Siakam topped out at 2019 Siakam (Kawhi year), rhat starting lineup would be really really good. It’s pretty much the 2019-20 raptors except with a better #1 scorer, a better secondary scoring cast, and worse defense (and waaaay more depth).

Our past teams pre-Kawhi should be mandatory study for this board. Patience is key unless there is a massive win now trade (Kawhi). Other than that, stay the course, don’t panik

We haven't played as a healthy full roster all year. I don't expect any trades this year, except trade deadline with Goran... so we develop Scottie and hope precious improves and we get og back soon...

Or Boucher!

Denver just lost to Orlando!!! If they lose to the Knicks or Houston next, they should pull the trigger on a trade.

Why can’t Siakam and Barnes play defence like Mobley on the perimeter ? Not saying they can be as good as he is but the process in guarding from there.

Actually use your length instead of guarding them as close as possible.

Good point, they did an outstanding job getting back to the top quickly and in a sustainable way. We had a good season after the championship and then tank.

How is it a good point though, when we took the chip from them in 2019 and then were much better then them again in 2020? They tanked in 2020, we tanked in 2021. Both teams missed the playoffs last year - but GSW were the ones that paid 147 million in luxury tax (!) for the privilege.

Their tank culminated in a terrible choice with Wiseman over Ball, whereas we made a great pick with Scottie. Jury still out on Kuminga and Moody off course, but it seems like they'd have been better off packaging those picks for another high-end vet.

They have Curry - we don't, that's the difference. But if you're comparing how each team did after 2019 it's pretty hard to make the case that they took the smarter path.

But they lost Durant after the '19 Finals, and Klay hasn't played since. And questionable draft choices and all, they are at the top of the league, with a bright future for a few more years at least. Seems like a pretty good path to me.

Yup, different situations, and yes we had a great 2020 season.

But them getting back an asset for Durant, Wiggins now, seems like good management to me. And Klay still hasn't played. They were in all those Finals, one year out of the playoffs, even made the play in last year, and now retooled and at the top of the league. Without Klay yet.

We had a very good team again in 2020 despite doing nothing to replace Kawhi, then tore it all down. Where we sit now there are no guarantees we'll get back near the top again. And 3 of the guys "in the twilight" are still playing, for other teams.

I kinda wish we had replaced Gasol somehow and retooled along the way, stayed competitive and relevant. And Giannis was never going to come here. But I know too, if we had kept even Serge, we'd have been say 5th or 6th last year and wouldn't have Scottie now. I get that too. But I'd still rather be where GSW is now, or at least in the mix in the East

Well, they have an MVP still in his prime and a limitless budget - it's hard to screw that up...but they absolutely did last year.

I can't think of too many teams that were as much of an epic failure as the 20-21 GSW. To draft Wiseman over Lamelo and then miss the playoffs with a $150 mil luxury tax bill would get any other GM fired instantly.
