I get that he's in your AV but you have to know that dunk is his greatest moment. Shawn Kemp was never as good on switches as Ayton. He was great at what he did but you wanna tell me that Kemp could've switched onto Steph Curry last night? You wanna tell that he had the fadeaway/hook that Deandre already has?

I liker Kemp but he wasn't all that. Ayton is also a MUCH better rebounder than him...already. Ayton also knows when to put down the fork and not to get fat.

Kemp could easily have switched onto Curry. He was far more athletic than Ayton. FAR. Kemp was also a 6-time consecutive All Star during the 90's when hoops was at its prime and dominated by Jordan and other hall of famers. Kemp had a much more consistent mid range jumper, three point range, and, well, his ability to destroy players with utterly ferocious dunks by making his own shot or in transition goes without saying. Ayton has none of that at this point and with as soft as he is mentally, he may never develop into what he COULD be. In Kemp's six all star seasons, he averaged double digit scoring, rebounding, nearly 2 blocks per game, and 1.5 steals. Nice red herring there at the end. That's cute. You have any other fallacies in that bucket you'd like to fish out?

I'd take Kemp over Ayton every day and twice on Sunday. Ayton would end up on a poster trying to defend him. It's pretty obvious you've not watched enough of him and the Sonics if you think that dunk on Lister is his crowning moment. It's cool though. I get it.

Check ball.

I remember Kemp very well and the stiffs that were guarding him back then. He had vertical athleticism but I disagree about his ability to shuffle his feet and move with guards.

There's no way he's staying with Curry last night. Not even if you attached a double cheeseburger to Steph. Speaking of which, you talk about Ayton not getting it, what happened with Kemp? He got too lazy and too fat. He never had the drive....and that was back then when guys weren't nearly as smart and athletic as they are now.

He would go nuts nowadays with IG/Tinder hoes and Uber eats available on your cell. Especially in some place like AZ. There's no way in hell Kemp could handle today's game. No way in hell. He'd lose his mind.

Why are we nit-picking the game of a 90's player? It's a different game.

Couldn't careless if Kemp could/couldn't guard Curry because they played in different eras. There wasn't a player like Curry back then taking 15 three's a game and hitting them at an incredible clip that also had the ability to pass and handle the ball as well.

That would be an appropriate comment for winning the NBA title. Would love to hear a Suns player say that in an interview.

There used to be a thing like that for winning the super bowl in the NFL.

Yep ...

Stiffs guarding him? LMAO. Okay. Rodman... Malone... Barkley... Oakley... Coleman.. Webber... Johnson... Duncan... Garnett...

That's a pretty big lineup of "stiffs".

There was a lockout which practically killed an entire season, lest you forget. Kemp always had the drive, but he let his demons get to him and that's what derailed his career. Truly disappointing to watch, trust me.

More unfounded generalizations. LOL. What else do you have in that bag?

I say to check up, but nah.

Why? Because he doesn't like the fact that I mentioned Ayton could be like Kemp in terms of just thumping on people... but he's just not that guy. Ayton is soft. Talented for sure... but soft.

I'm done with it though. It's all good. I'm fine that his opinion is what it is and differs from mine. The Suns played a great game and Ayton, for all his softness, managed to perform well and contribute when he was needed. That's what matters most.

I don't really feel like comparing eras is productive. Sure some players would obviously struggle (like the stumbling stiff C's) but most players would adapt because the key difference between the eras is skill rather than physical attributes and skills can be picked up.

....A fresh out of high school version of Garnett-not the KG that we remember. Duncan didn't get him either. Barkley and Webber were defensive stoppers for sure

I'll give you Malone. I'd be curious to see his splits vs Utah back in 92-96.

That lockout effected all players, not just him and they managed to come back strong. Did you not forget all the things that Ayton's dealt with? Like say a worldwide pandemic that shut the league down...or when he was (unjustly) suspended?

Look, he was a great player, and at his peak he was maybe better than DA offensively (there's no way you'll ever convince me he could guard 1-5 like DA can) but knowing all we know now there's no way you take him over Ayton. Too much to deal with.

Yeah, but watch if Book had an off night they'd say "Oh he isn't ready for the big stage, choked on national TV, couldn't get it going against the best team in the league raises a lot of questions...etc."

Even if you look at the box score, it's interesting to see Book was -5 and the rest of the starters by the end were between +16 and +21.

We are a TEAM. We are not just one or two players. CP3 is obviously very important as the leader and calming presence in big moments but the fact that we not only hung on but rose the level of play when Book went out says a lot about our team.

Pretty impressive that in the last few months we've won playoff games with CP3 out, won 6 straight at the beginning of this streak with Ayton out, and were able to beat the team with the best record after Booker goes down.

It really speaks to the culture here and shows that when they say it's a 'we score' or 'next man up' mentality it's not just a buzzword or talking point, they really believe it.

Yeah, I thought they might play well with Book out (maybe not all the time) but with the way they move and move the ball, with CP3 running things and being a guy that can take over, and Mikal, Cam and Crowder able to hold down 2-4, they can do ok along with Ayton in the middle.

The problem will be doing it a whole game with little depth with Nader, Kaminsky, Saric out too so little depth to give guys a breather. Could play one of those bigs at the 4 a bit and Nader to give the wings a break.

I was wondering if Cam could really live up to the moment in a crunch time game (but the finals bode well for him). But as a starter against a good team that's a different task....particularly against a good team.

Also, Payne has not played well overall this season. He is way down from 3 (over 44% last year to 31.6% this year so hopefully he improves a lot going forward).
Shamet will need to show he can step up too when needed and get back to shooting better. He hit a big 3 at the end though and any guy who mostly shoots 3s and spreads the floor for others is going to be streaky.

He's still our 4th best 3 pt shooter on the season and Book is having his best 3 pt shooting season by far (he had one other decent season from 3)...and Bridges/Cam both at 39% or better...Shamet down a bit from where he was at 38%.
