That was about as good as a regular season game will get with prime Giannis here in Milwaukee. High scoring. Plenty of highlight reel plays. Down to the wire. Boogie with a fantastic debut. Charlotte a really fun team. The Freak with the game winner. Ah yeah, the good stuff.

You simply cannot "let them play" for the majority of the game and also call those two phantom fouls on Giannis and the one on Jrue. The refs were worse than usual last night.

they also ruled a defensive foul on Grayson Allen for getting elbowed in the face on a drive but then reviewed it and called a flagrant for the elbow to the face but kept the foul called it on the floor then let the hornets shoot 2 free throws anyways

Okay, after sleeping on it, I was a little harsh towards the Hornets. I'll downgrade that "**** you" to a "buzz off."

On to the Bucks: great resiliency on a really tough night. We got punched in the mouth and still kept our composure and executed when it mattered. The playoffs really battle-tested this team. They don’t fold under pressure anymore.
Giannis was incredible. And that play by Bud at the end of the game was genius!! Give him credit there.
Fitting that Charlotte almost wins on a prayer half court three. What a crazy game.
That wasn't the only beautiful play he drew up, either. He's always been good with ATOs but it feels like we get a layup like 80% of the time now.

Boogie finally realizing that hitching your wagon to old-ass Lebron and the LA super-teams isn't really a profitable venture in order to rehab your career anymore, and I expect other veterans will eventually realize the same. Guys like David West, Pau, Dedmon etc. realized this 6-7 years ago when they flocked to San Antonio and played in a system that actually maximized their strengths.

That was so confusing. What exactly was the foul on Grayson if the contact was ruled a technical the other way?

Very confusing. It definitely wasn't a shooting foul. But even if it was, why didn't Hayward shoot the free throws first, with the Bucks getting a technical free throw and the ball after?

refs were brutal. hornets were on fire. LaMelo hit 8 3's? LOL. If they play again and give LaMelo those same shots, he probably hits 4 or 5 of them and bucks blow them out. Good to see a crunch time game as well. Giannis and Midds with big shots. Bring on the Raps!

Had a very "We're in charge so let's just make up what happens" vibe.

One great thing about playing Giannis with Boogie is that you absolutely can not double Boogie with Giannis on the floor, so you can get a one-on-one post touch with Boogie whenever you feel like it.

This must be the tenth comment on how good of a coaching move the last play to Giannis was.
Giannis was dominating the hornets inside all game. So calling a clear out for Giannis is great coaching? It's doing the obvious thing. Not getting the two time MVP the ball against a small team he has dominated all game would be coaching malfeasance.
That said, despite the torrid shooting by the Hornets, I didn't think the defensive schemes used by Bud were wrong. The Hornets consistently hit tough shots.

You don't get a layup if you just run through to one side of the floor and have Giannis attack the empty side. You don't get a layup if you inbound to Giannis. You get a swarm of bodies. Watch the off ball misdirection before the inbound and after Jrue's catch. They back-screen for Jrue so McDaniels has to switch onto him above the break, but behind the ball so Jrue can easily catch and turn for Giannis. Now your rim defense is out of the play and Giannis has the ball with momentum. If you just have Giannis iso, Washington will have help and we end up with a rushed jumpshot.

Giannis talked about the play. His job was to attack the basket and pass it if double teamed. Pretty basic. The brilliance of the play was on Giannis. He attacked immediately and the Bucks were spread so wide with shooters that the Hornets had no good options. It was the right call by Bud, rather than isolate Middleton who was having an inefficient night.

Straight from Boogies mouth, there were no other options. He worked out for Denver last week, didn't hear anything back, Bucks called on Friday, worked out Saturday by Ham and Milt Newton, went to dinner, talked to Bud on the phone, signed Sunday.DutchManDanFan wrote:skones wrote:As I've said, all season long, it's criminal he wasn't on a roster. He's gotten the short end of the stick for not being "Boogie Cousins." He's absolutely a serviceable big in this league. When you're not a star, you're out of the league, but if you're a roleplayer teams will throw money at you, total BS on his end.
Being huge and being able to hit the triple and being able to pass the ball? Seriously, what. the. ****? He's had more than enough time to get past, "Give me the ball I'm Demarcus Cousins." For that to be a worry for this long is just a woeful failure by NBA GMs.
We don't know what happened in Boogie camp. Maybe they were looking only at a few teams for him to join and waited for a chance. Maybe he had to get in better shape first. Maybe his agent was in contact with Horst for weeks, but Horstie played hard to get. And maybe Horst needed some time to convince Bud to take a look.
I think it's not difficult to see that Mil was high on his prefered list, certainly with Brook out. And for the Bucks it is good timing to try him out.
He played 13 of his 15 minutes with Giannis. No worries for his +/- if this is the plan most of the times.

Lol. The extreme lengths you're willing to go to not give credit to a play that clearly deserves credit. They didn't throw the ball to Giannis outright for a reason. The floor was spread wide for a reason. Giannis got down hill before he received the ball for a reason.BigO wrote:emunney wrote:BigO wrote:

Awfully picky and choosy from you. "This defensive scheme is trash because this guy does this instead of doing this on this action" to "well you just give the guy the ball sooooo." You can't be serious.
