Re: Gobert has been pretty nasty this year
Yeah, unfortunately for Utah this is the year when the Warriors are back so they'd have a tough time getting out of the West again.
Bad playoffs match-up vs. Golden State so they'd hope to draw Phoenix (better match-up) when postseason rolls and hope for the best when Warriors go small if and when they meet in the West Finals (where Gobert might struggle again)

If there is no basketball in heaven, i am not going.

Gobert has been a force and indeed the most important reason for their #2 SRS in the league.
He has been a force and indeed the most important reason for their playoffs eliminations in recent years
Your team might have a title if they had Gobert. As is, you have no title in site (I was actually high on Miami too. What an embarrassing season).

Doesn't ATL run 4 out with 1 big?
Not with the same players.

No one paying 40 for Gobert will have a title

Re: Gobert has been pretty nasty this year
Brian Scalabrine has been holding forth all game tonight about how to attack Gobert. (As I type this, the Jazz/Celtics are tied 85-85 with 1/3 of the game left to go.)
His key point is that you should get Gobert involved in defending something in particular, then "play off" that. Coach Udoka has been playing Horford + Grant Williams when Gobert is on the floor, for obvious reasons of stretchiness. But Scal also praises guys who just challenge Gobert at the rim, especially Schroeder.
I'm not sure what well-supported Scal is making beyond "draw Gobert away from the basket with stretch bigs", but I thought I'd contribute it to this thread even so.

Now Scal is drawing a distinction (using Terrance Mann in last year's playoffs as an example) between driving against Gobert and getting "into Gobert's body" along the way (which Gobert doesn't want) vs. letting Gobert wait and "meet you at the rim".

Still think rudys the best at what he does, but physicality does work against him.

he is kinda like harden. he has a limited thing he does well on offense (switching defense in hardens case) and on the other end his team has a specific style because of him and they cant really do much else because they built an identity around that player being dominant. harden with the iso and gobert with the ability to cover ground.... but in a 2 week series its possible to plan around this style and counter it, to which their teams dont have the ability to do so because they went all in on optimizing a certain style.

People are going to be quick to just go by his playoff past, but Gobert has made HUGE strides this year.

Re: Gobert has been pretty nasty this year
I feel like we do this every year and then a team like the clippers stretches out Utah and its game over
And then the even sadder part is Rudy can't even post up 6'6 guards
That LAC series was downright bad and embarrassing, especially w/o Kawhi
