Now waive Semi and sign John Henson.
For some reason talking about these moves made me stop for a second and remember that we traded Sam Merrill for Grayson Allen. It was hilarious then and it's even more hilarious now with Grayson (not surprisingly) having a career year. Thanks Grizz.

I really don't understand why any fan would care about the numbers at this point. The cost of our core means external spending is extremely limited. This isn't the old days when hoarding cap space and absorbing bad contracts for picks was more entertaining than the stuff happening on the court. So we're just concerned for the profit margins of billionaires borrowing against a massively appreciated asset?
It's more about what they spend their money on. Tucker at a guaranteed $14.3mil over 2 years at the age of 36 is not a good gamble.
Miami took a gamble and it’s paying off for them

They lost Kendrick Nunn to sign a 36 year old to a mediocre basketball team. It won't end well for them.

I for one love brining Wes back. I agree with several others here that I still think he is a plus defender who can make threes. I think he and Cousins will prove to be some shrewd signings for us.

That exclamation for Wes is as egregious as the one for signing Robin.

I agree, it's probably not going to be a happy ending in Miami. By playoff time PJ will be 37 and Lowry will be 36 and their playoff success will depend largely on both of them.
My guess is Miami probably finishes in that #4 vs #5 match up and maybe gets to the 2nd round depending on who they would play, if they manage to make it to the 2nd round, they'll likely get smoked by us or Brooklyn.
Looking at the east, there's a lot of good teams but IMO Milwaukee and Brooklyn are the only 2 legit contenders. Not to sound like a homer, but if the Bucks are healthy and playing with playoff level intensity, I can't see anyone in the east taking the Bucks to more than 5 games. With the exception of Brooklyn of course.
Chicago? Miami? Charlotte? Washington? Philly? Assuming we're healthy, who is taking us to more than 5 games in that group when we're playing with playoff level intensity. Even Brooklyn, I would consider them a legit threat but KD is playing 40+ minutes a lot of nights for them. Hows that going to work out 5 months from now.

So instead we......
Gambled on PJ Tucker not being a rotation NBA player fresh off a convincing run of being a rotation player.
Gambled on bonafide scrubs coming in replacing minutes that were left by Tuckers departure.
Gambled on the health of an aging, already shortened, rotation of NBA players to stay completely healthy.
Gambled on not needing any type of salary filler to facilitate trades on a title contender without many other avenues to add players.
I'd say so far we have certainly lost that gamble.
They saved money. That's it. And in the end, after all the patching up that was needed (so far), not even that much this season.

Everything you listed is a far better bet than giving Tucker the deal that Miami did.

I would guarantee that not the players, the GM or the coaches would agree with that but to each their own I suppose.

he's an OK defender who is league-average-ish at a low volume of 3's. I don't want him averaging 10 mins a game outside of games where a wing is sat for rest or injury.

Why? He's starting for Miami. He started for us in the finals. Generally when you make a bet there's a downside, but from a basketball perspective there's no downside. We could have had PJ on the roster, or we could have any one of the much worse players we signed instead of him. Why is the value of his contract important? Our superstar is in his prime. It's a 2 year contract for *less than league average salary* for a guy who played 30 mpg in a title run. 2/14 is a nothing contract in this context. Laughable.

Not to mention this after years of our owners penny pinching their way around the luxury tax, completely gambling on the grace of a generational talent staying loyal and promising to pay it back at this very stage of the teams development.
This isn't the Bucks team that has to circle home games against Chicago and go all in for 2 home playoff games to payoff Richard Jefferson's contract.

Farewell Georgios, well done on making the league but you had no place taking up a roster spot on a contender.
Wes? Well he’s better than Georgios I guess. Surely there are better options but I’m willing to give it another chance.

Ayt wrote:I have no idea where people got the idea that Hill was cooked. That guy could probably still be playing in the NBA at 40 if he avoids a major injury.
By the time you see it at the playoffs, it will be too late to do anything. Playoff guards will most likely cook Hill , to the state of unplayable. Wes sign is trash too.
Hartenstein, Luke Kornet & Noah Vonleh where my targets for years. Bud&Horst underestimated Hood too so that story had a bad ending for us. Saying all that , Portis is a saviour. Portis will replace Brook , he won't be as good as a rim protector BUT he is more mobile and he will guard the mid range better. So don't worry that much about the C position. Cousins will have the last season Portis role, so we are good.
Bucks achilles in my eyes is the backup PG position. If anything happens to Jrue ... foul trouble or anything Hill is unplayable for heavy minutes against top tier guards. So Horst should fill that gap, with Dragic or Rubio or Satoransky or someone with playoff miles on his back.
Donte + Brook + something (a 2030 1st?) .. for Dragic or Rubio is a move I would make to cement my point guard options.

So Horsty earned a long vacation after the Grayson extention, came back with renewed energy and figured it was time to replace the useless inexperienced dudes. I’m fine with that. In Horst we trust.

Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions - Wes is Back!
Tucker had a 2/15 offer from Miami. My guess is that he asked a 2/20 from Milwaukee to resign. He had his ring, he had the beach, why do people believe that he would stay in Milwaukee if Bucks just matched the Miami offer? Losing PJ sucks, but not spending that much on him was the right call.
The only thing I would change from this offseason - which was great after getting Allen for pennies and Bobby signing for pennies - is that I would go harder for Schroder. He was destined to take the tax-MLE, we could have him over Boston if we were more patient.
