Hoopshype's "20 Greatest Cs ever" list

Post#1 » by GSWFan1994 » Sun Dec 5, 2021 12:05 am

I was overdue to post this list & create this thread... so here it is.

For those who missed the other 4 lists, here are the links:

Hoopshype's "20 Greatest PGs ever" list

Hoopshype's "20 Greatest SGs ever" list

Hoopshype's "20 Greatest SFs ever" list

Hoopshype's "20 Greatest PFs ever" list

So, without further ado, here are the top 20 centers:

1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
2. Bill Russell
3. Wilt Chamberlain
4. Shaquille O'Neal
5. Hakeem Olajuwon
6. Moses Malone
7. David Robinson
8. Patrick Ewing
9. George Mikan
10. Bob McAdoo
11. Wes Unseld
12. Robert Parish
13. Willis Reed
14. Dwight Howard
15. Dave Cowens
16. Bill Walton
17. Artis Gilmore
18. Nate Thurmond
19. Nikola Jokic
20. Dikembe Mutombo

Here's the link with the full article, including players' accolades & reasoning.

Some notable omissions from the top of my head: Ben Wallace, Alonzo Morning, Jack Sikma, Bob Lanier, Neil Johnston, Yao Ming.

Enjoy & discuss.

Bosh is missing (hes not a C imo). In the last thread with the PFs you mentioned that we could be seeing him here, since he didn't make it to the top 20 there.

Yes, he definitely was left out, though I'm not 100% sure if he is a definitive top 100 player all-time.

I assume this is greatest centers by NBA merit, cause overall, SAbonis would easily crack top 20 centers ever.

What? Lol. I thought this was a top 20 list of each position (with honorable mentions). He hasn't made either list. Why did you just...?

Its a pretty solid list. I would have had Ben Wallace in the top 20, I also would have liked to include Arvidas Sabonis in there If you counted his international experience.

Let me better explain my reasoning: I agree that Chris Bosh should be either a top 20 C or a top 20 PF (PF would suit him better IMO). But, if you create a top 100 list, I'm not so sure if he would be a top 100 all-time player, as there are better options at the other 4 positions, thus leaving him out.

Dwight far too low, as usual on these things. Remember when Patrick Ewing was the consensus second-best player in the league for about five years and dragged a mediocre team to the finals (The Knicks were much better, and Dwight went through LBJ)? No, me neither.

Peak Orlando Dwight Howard is so much better than where he's listed even if it's for overall greatness.

1k steals
2k blocks
8x all-star
8x all-nba
3x DPOY

I’d put shaq #2, wilt #3, Hakeem #4, russel #5

Wilt should be first. List is invalid simply because of that.

Imo embiid should be on there. I'd put Shaq and Hakeem over Wilt and Russell as well. I think Ben Wallace has a really good argument to be on there, he's probably one of the 3 greatest defensive players of all time.

Reed, Howard, and Cowens and least should all be ahead of Parish. I love McAdoo but his prime was too short to be that high
