i don't really want to talk about rj. but for every guy who started year 3 bad and became sort of a star, there's 4 guys who didn't. what you're basically saying is "because this 1 guy did it, it's possible rj can do it". well sure. it'd still be possible if nobody had ever done it. it just doesn't seem likely.

but i do agree that this place has become sort of a toxic soup of agendas and overreactions to every play. it honestly is annoying at this point. the game threads are getting pretty bad. i don't know why it has gotten this bad but it has.

It’s because everyone fronted like it would be okay if we take a step back because the East got better, but deep down everyone want this team to take another leap.

It’s human nature. We set the bar high at the 4th seed. Even if we crawl back to the 5th seed and take a team to a game 7 first round exit, people will say we disappointed.

The team and the fans had the expectation of 2nd round or bust and right now we are looking like first round fodder for the Bucks or the Nets. Assuming we even make the playoffs

i don't think most people here even believed that we would take a step back. over the summer they mostly seemed to feel like we would be better. but i do think you're right that their expectations have let them down and they're now lashing out because of that.

Honestly, for all my problems with trading for just Dame, at least that would give us a sense of direction

We're just meandering around right now, feels like we're just waiting for it to all click or for us to fall off a cliff, and the cliff seems more likely.

this team wasn't built to win - it was built to keep ppl from getting fired. our young "talent" isn't really talent, our "star" isn't a star, our offseason signings are nothing more than empty contracts that don't move the needle at all. scott perry is the embodiment of mediocrity. thibs isn't bad but he's an overrated regular season overarchiever who's really only here to stop the bleeding and give off the veneer of professionalism until something better comes along. i can say without a trace of irony that i would be in favor of cleaning house and handing the team over to a fresh face like brock aller. i mean what do we really have to lose? as it is this team has the spirit of a crew of low-ceiling company men who are only in it for the paycheck. sure, it's an improvement over the mills era, but not by much.

rj is putting up a 10 PER in year three. this is going nowhere

Bingo bongo. This roster was just to sell tickets until 2023. No Knick makes sense when ypu think thet are trying to win, but if you look at the franchise as caring about profits every move makes sense.

I think the RJ quote is getting way too much attention honestly.... and largely due to a condensed soundbite.

People claiming he "isn't working hard" and stuff like that are blowing a quote out of proportion.

Thibs was asked how RJ can get out of his shooting struggles.... he said "put up shots in the gym." Yet people inferring a lot of other things like RJ isn't a hard worker?

Nah - sometimes you gotta re-evaluate things and get back to your bread and butter. Yes, he gotta put up shots in the gym just like Randle gotta put up 1000 free throws every single night with fake crowd noise and taunts, including low blows targeted towards his family just to make him angry and help him stay focused on making FTs.

But the real issue is the team needs to treat home games like life-or-death situations. Hasn't been the case for like 20 years, but it's long overdue.
