Saying he SUCKS might be too much, but it's obvious he's a totally ordinary player, at best. That's the way it goes sometimes.
thats the opinion of most posters now. look at their opinions from 5 weeks ago, today:

Yup. I thought he took a step. It was just one of those good games a lot of NBA players can have, unfortunately.
I see Jaylen Brown got brought up. That guy is an uber athlete. So there is something to kind of fall back on when maybe the shot isn't going or the situations of the game don't allow what makes him his best.
RJ isn't so different from a number of players who need things a certain way to score. Absolutely require a pick to get free 95% of the time. Maybe the defense on it's heels a bit in transition. And so on.
RJ's got a lot of attributes that make him a nice player to have on a team. Plays within the concept. All around skills. Solid defender. Great attitude. (Thibs recent comments notwithstanding)
His top end talent just isn't that good along with kind of ordinary athleticism for the NBA. He's strong as hell. Quick or explosive he's not. That's going to be tough as a wing.
Also, I have a theory about why Thibs is going in on RJ.
Phil Jackson used to go in on Horace Grant about stuff that wasn't even about Horace. But he knew Horace could take it.
I think Thibs is saying stuff at RJ meant for Randle. Because RJ has a strong mind and Randle is kind of sensitive.
Much of RJ's upside has been predicated on (a) desire and (b) work ethic. He is clearly a player who requires confidence to perform well. Lose the proper mindset and RJ's game goes to pieces basically.
RJ's confidence seems low now. It takes more for a guy like him to get that back than an athletic stud who can break out at any time. RJ is a steady as she goes guy so if you remove consistency and confidence we're left with propping him up by saying well at least he defends and rebounds.
Well, it seems Thibs just burst any bubble with his get back in the gym comments.
I was the one who identified RJ as a modular skills guy who can overcome his mechanical shortcomings by skill stacking. If he's slacking on that he ain't going to make it.
In defense of RJ though, he's quite young. He came into the league at 18. So his trajectory may actually require 5 seasons to mature into a consistent NBA player.
And I think he is a good influence. It is definitely an interesting read on Thibs that he said to RJ because he's the mentally strong one. I think he's a more stable person than Randle who is now so Emo I'm beginning to dislike him a bit. I doubt RJ is ever going to be a locker room problem. He may even be the quiet type of leader. Randle ain't a leader at all.
So I'm sorry RJ is struggling, but you don't give up on him. If he's part of a trade, so be it. But he still can become a solid player with more time. He's not a # 1 or # 2 scoring option probably, but that doesn't mean he can't be a good overall contributor.
