Goran
Is there any way to extract any value at all?
Buying him out will give us some cap space?
Waiting for a contender to lose a PG to injury before the trade deadline?
Suffice to say he won't be back with us..
Powell would be perfect, but numbers wont work for Dallas.

Re: Goran
No team wants him bad enough to make a trade, they will wait for raps to buy him out.

Re: Goran
I wish he could have played enough backup to Fred to showcase him a bit more. which would've given us more leverage. Nurse's mistake was starting him with Fred at first, and he was all DNP except the Detroit game. It could have been handled better.
Any serviceable player, especially a big, would be good at this point.

Raps don't want Powell as his contract extends into next year . I have said all along this would be a buyout and that is what it will be. The only question is when......preferably sooner rather than later. If enough given back, it gives a little room under tax threshold to bring in a player or 2. Perhaps if we buy him out sooner so he can join Dallas, we could ask them to make a separate transaction and send us a 2nd rounder for the rights to Nando De Colo or something like that.

Re: Goran
Large ending contracts carry value in themselves. In order to extract that value, you need a little luck....i.e. the right team with the right player(s) needs to implode at the right time. OKC ate Horfords contract then traded him a year later and gained 2 1st round picks in the process.
I'm not sure if there will be a team in this situation this year that matches anything the Raptors would want. Perhaps the Raps can rollover Dragic's ending contract for an ending contract next year and land a 1st round pick in the process?

He makes too much money for what he is as a player and finding a trade will be difficult. I imagine they will will eventually buy him out and he will sign with the Mavs.

Re: Goran
I don't get why people have to focus on an individual contract.
We are at the stage of evaluating who fits or not, and we try to package pieces together for better value. For example, if Boucher doesn't work, you probably trade Boucher and Dragic together.
If you are only trading pieces by pieces, your return value will be limited.
And Dragic has value, even an expiring has value, it depends if we want to take a longer term contract, which will impact our starting players contract. This is why we should first evaluate if our starting core can win games, if not, we package with a few more pieces.

He only has value if you want to take back a longer contract...maybe get a pick for it
Considering we won't even have cap space if we let him walk this off-season it would probably be best to do that. Not for ownerships pockets but our roster

Re: Goran
to be fair, if Dragic could play, why would we trade him? Clearly he doesnt want to be here and he hasnt shown any signs that he could play

If we want to add an ok talent on a longer contract, Goran (and Boucher) can be useful. I don't think anyone really values him much for his on-court production anymore. We can wait it out till the deadline and see if anything appealing presents itself. If not, buy him out or let his contract expire.

I think the trade would have happened by now. Barring some sort of injury to a contender I think a buyout is the only option now.
We're not taking back multiple years of salary in a trade.

Re: Goran
I'd like to see him go to Denver. Jamal Murray is out, MPJ is out and they need a fill-in that can help them out.
I'd love to get BolBol out of this and possibly take on JaMychal Green's contract for doing so?

Teams tend to get a bit more antsy as the trade deadline approaches, but to be honest, I don't care if they buy him out at this point.

If only option is to buy him out, I'd rather they be patient and sit on it until past trade deadline and explore all options. Unless he gives up enough in a buyout that it becomes enticing, just see what's out there and buy him out at the last second. He's not with the team anyway so can't really hurt you being patient.

The league knows his value. They have a career’s worth of data on him. Playing him wouldn’t have changed it, unless of course he got injured.

Re: Goran
The first milestone date is Dec. 15 when players signed over the offseason can be traded.
I think we'll start to see whether there's any interest in Goran starting from that date.
Looking around the league, there are a few teams that need to shore up its guard rotation. The key is whether or not teams are willing to trade assets for him. At $19mil thats iffy.
