You’re a little behind the 8 ball dude.
Your focused on that , I’m focused on the Bulls winning the next game .

Equating Caruso and Scalabrine is asinine. That's one of the worst takes I have ever seen and it has nothing to do with reality or winning.

A couple of bench players getting mvp chants. Your bias is showing . It’s ok the fanfare is ok . Are you guys ok? Wow. This is embarrassing I have to explain it to you .

Also it’s this fake obliviousness that get other fans to think I’m here being in-genuine. Your a mod your supposed to be held to higher standard not perpetuate disillusion.

Get this through your head: Scalabrine had no role with the team. Caruso is a starter at this point. There is no comparison.

Caruso starts because of injury . Am a fan of Caruso.
What’s the problem you guys can’t admit he gets fanfare?
Mvp chants for a guy that averages 8ppg?

You can lie distort whatever all you want to the other fanboys or meatballs just don’t think I’m gonna follow ya’ll propaganda .

I thought your comparison was fairly obvious. I definitely equate the MVP chants for Caruso to the over the top fandom for Scalabrine. I think more about it as well but dont think the discussion is appropriate for this board.

Just know your point wasnt lost on me. It obviously wasnt an apples to apples comparison.

Caruso is a guy that is looking to make the All-NBA defensive team, and he likely will. He's been so damn valuable. Scalabrine was a mascot, a guy who barely touched the court. It's a huge knock to Caruso's talent level to make that comparison.

But let's be real, you left out the big reason you made the comparison. They are both white guys who don't fit the mold of an athlete. Its offensive to Caruso to mention him with Scalabrine to be honest.

Not to speak for the poster, but I dont think he made the comparison because they are white. I do believe those guys (neither of which are anywhere near MVP level) get MVP chants because they are white however.

Are there any other instances of bench players being showered with so much adoration in general, let alone in Chicago?

Derrick Rose. Caruso is also starting at this point, and playing starters minutes at 30 MPG. He runs the offense often, is the best defender and goes absolutely balls to the wall at all times. Dude is constantly taking charges, getting on the ground to get loose balls. Crowds always love players like that.

Fair point with Rose. Though it seems obvious why he gets those chants, hometown kid, actually was an MVP, highly respected despite (hell probably because of) all hes been through.

What you described of Caruso is noble. But is no where near MVP level.

It also doesnt come close to describing what Scal brought to the table, yet he got those chants as well.

In fact, if we were to go back to your description of Caruso, I think we'd find a handful of players who got this description (Hinrich, Duhon off most recent memory). Yet they dont receive MVP chants.

I completely value everything Caruso brings to the team, but him getting those chants shows that (wrongly) in the minds of fans hes more mascot than impact player. I'll just leave it at that.

IMO, fans all around the league chant MVP for guys they want to hear their fandom for. Nobody here is likely to disagree that Caruso has quickly built very strong fan support in Chicago for his impact on games.

Personally, I dislike the MVP chants to Caruso. I think it's disrespectful, just as what I was describing. Scal got MVP chants because he was basically a mascot. He was Jackie Moon looking white dude that never played. That isn't Caruso. I think it's disrespectful to chant "MVP" like he is Scal. It's even more disrespectful to make a straight up comparison to Scal. Scal brought nothing to the table.

Caruso this year is much better than Hinrich or Duhon ever were. Hell, he is 7th in The ENTIRE league RAPTOR WAR from FiveThirtyEight. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-player-ratings/
Whether you believe in the statistic or not, it shows just how impactful he has been to the team. He's a HUGE reason that the Bulls have had a resurgence.

 the comparison is strictly because of the fanfare . Let’s be honest almost anything not complimentary is offensive to the staunch following of the local Fan favorite . Right now that seems to be Caruso and ayo .
But to answer your question , no there was no racial connotation . It’s about the fanfare , how they are similar.

I agree that its disrespectful for the team as a whole. To the point even Caruso has (in game) asked them to lower the chants.

That's about all we share in common on this topic however.

What is this Caruso slander?

We obviously have Zach and DeMar, but the third most important player on this team is by far Alex Caruso. And that's not an exaggeration either. The number backs it up. Much like how Draymond was the team's MVP despite them having Curry and Klay, Caruso is that for us.

If you look at this roster's win shares, he's ranked third behind our two stars. How many times have you seen him end a game with a ridiculous +/- while only scoring 4 points? When you see him check in to the game, you know he's gonna make a big impact - whether by making life hell for the other team's best offensive player or making a play that changes the tide of the game. There's a reason he's one of LeBron's favorite teammates. He's simply just a winning player.

The game is played on two sides, and Caruso is the major reason why we're a top 10 defensive team. It's not just about points per game. He gets us organized defensively, often calling plays before it happens or being 2-3 passes ahead of a play as it's being run so he can intercept the ball and initiate a fast break (which affects our offensive rating too btw). When a game is close and is being decided by 1-2 plays, having Caruso on your team can end up tipping the game your way (see that steal on Randle when Knicks were making their run).

And it's not like the dude is Denzel Valentine athletically. He can get up there and finish over taller guys.
