Turner would be an ideal C for us. A package of Trent, Flynn and a lightly-protected 1st should get the conversation started.
I believe Trent can be traded after January 15.

Re: [Charania] Pacers Open To Trading Myles Turner Or Damontas Sabonis
Sure, Turner fits a need, but we are not very likely trading partners. We aren't giving up the pieces they need to rebuild, and the matching salaries don't make sense.
I see it working only as part of a 3 team trade where Turner comes here, a package with Dragic and others goes out to the third team, and the third team sends future picks to Indy, with us sending out Flynn and/or Boucher. I don't think Indy gets enough here though. I just don't see a realistic trade scenario that makes sense.
Which contenders have a use for Sabonis/Turner and the pieces to make it work? Maybe the Bucks need a C? Can the Warriors afford them? They're already super expensive...

Depends what you want to give up here? Are you willing to give up protected 1st? Then dragic + first for Turner is pretty easy trade to make and they can just buy him out.

Doubt that's enough. Also I'm operating under the general principle that 1st rounders going out is nearly off the table for the Raps.
Turner might be the kind of guy we'd risk a 1st for, but I don't know. It certainly accelerates our timeline, which I'm not sure we want to do just yet.

I just can't see masai giving up a pick for a team that is about to miss the playoffs. Turner does not automatically makes a playoff team.

I'm guessing Indy says no unless the pick is unprotected, but then I doubt the Raptors do that. A lotto protected pick is about all I'd be risking in terms of draft capital, and that's probably not enough for Indy.
I'll be interested to see what kind of leaked offers come out for these near all-star guys. It might be an interesting bar that's set for a future trade of one of our bigger pieces down the road (Siakam, Fred etc. if it comes to that).

That's my thinking too. Esp after the Barnes pick (and lotto luck), I think the Raptors brass would like one more kick at the draft can before making big moves like this.

A rebuilding team shouldn't be giving away #1 picks or good prospects for expensive non star players in their mid to late 20s, unless they're ready to compete pretty soon.

If they’re rebuilding, wouldn’t they want either young talent plus expiring?
We have Boucher, Dragic, Flynn, Banton, Precious to give up ?

Re: [Charania] Pacers Open To Trading Myles Turner Or Damontas Sabonis
I've been lobbying for Turner for years. He'd be a great fit IMO. He would plug by far the biggest hole on the roster.
Siakam for Turner straight up would be an overpay. And I doubt Indiana would want Siakam anyway if they're rebuilding. But Siakam is really the only chip I can see Masai being willing to part with (highly doubt FVV, OG, or Barnes are available). Perhaps we could involve a third team that could take Siakam, and that team would give up the assets Indiana would want.

“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Obviously OG and Barnes wouldn't be moved.
Jan 15th is the date for those who has increased salary. March 3rd was last year with a shorten (and late) season.
The trade deadline for this year is Feb 10th, I believe.
Obviously OG and Barnes wouldn't be moved. So to match salary, it would be Siakam, VanVleet and Trent, but I would argue for the purpose of trading Turner is for Siakam, so I personally think you rule out Siakam as well.

Re: [Charania] Pacers Open To Trading Myles Turner Or Damontas Sabonis
I’ve always felt that Turner has been a bit overrated on this forum. We’d trade for him, then people would turn on him after like 10 games when they see how inconsistent he is. He’s an okay player, but I think there’s a misconception that he would be an impact player for us and I don’t think that would be the case.
Sabonis is the better player of the two, I think. He’s not a rim protector but plays okay team defense - the rim protector thing is why I’m not sure he’s the best fit but his talent I think raises the ceiling for this team.
In either case, we have a pretty appealing package to make a deal - Dragic, Flynn, and this year’s unprotected first. Conveniently, that fits salary wise for both Sabonis and Turner.
Side note; I just can’t with the FVV and Siakam hate, man.

We're competing already. There are very few great teams in the East this year - a #5 or #6 seed is already well within the realm of possibility right now with the roster as is. Realistically we can't expect another lottery pick this year - the roster is too good. They'd have to get very creative with the injuries and late game tankage.

Re: [Charania] Pacers Open To Trading Myles Turner Or Damontas Sabonis
3 team deal centering around Siakam
TOR Out - Siakam
TOR In - Turner , Kuminga
GSW In - Siakam
GSW Out - Kuminga, Moody , Wiseman, 2022 1st
Ind In - GSW 2022 1st , Moody , Wiseman
Ind Out - Turner
Just spitballing an idea to give out. Seems like we don't really have much to offer for Turner if IND is looking for a rebuild, as I'm sure we want to hold on to our first this year

you are correct. just looked it up.
If the signing of a new contract with a “Bird” or “Early Bird” free agent causes a team’s team salary to exceed the salary cap and the player’s first-year salary in that new contract is more than 120% above the player’s salary in the prior season, then the player may not be traded until the later of 3 months after they sign or January 15.

So Trent can be traded after January 15.

At 25, Turner would fit our core. Assuming Trent is shipped the other way, a core of FVV-Scottie-OG-Siakam-Turner can be competitive right away and for the next 5 years. And on paper, that's the best defensive team in the league.

I'm good with potentially adding an older impact player if a deal makes sense, but I dont believe Turner (or Sabonis) would move the needle much for us. They aren't impact guys.Lateral Quicks wrote:OakleyDokely wrote:A rebuilding team shouldn't be giving away #1 picks or good prospects for expensive non star players in their mid to late 20s, unless they're ready to compete pretty soon.

Bjorken was the coach of the Pacers right?
I'm sure with the way Nurse respects him, we will only be getting a player that Nate had a good experience with

It's not so much his age I have issue with, it's that we would need to give up good young assets to get him and pay him quite a bit of money and what we'd be getting is basically a solid starter. I don't believe there's enough upside in a move like this.Kurtz wrote:OakleyDokely wrote:A rebuilding team shouldn't be giving away #1 picks or good prospects for expensive non star players in their mid to late 20s, unless they're ready to compete pretty soon.

It'll either be a protected first or Trent. Don't think the Raptors would do both.
