I honestly think it was a last desperate move. They have a really old owner, the game attendance is going down from year to year, and they can't attract big names with where they are geographically based.

I think Carlisle was supposed to be the steady hand that brought this group together, but it hasn't happened and it is a bit unfair to judge only 25 games in. Dallas was also pretty much starting over with Luka and Carlisle did well to figure out how to make the offense elite.

Carlisle was also a former Indy coach during the Stephen Jackson, Artest, O'Neal - Malice in the Palace era. Those were great times for Indy. I could see Carlisle pushing to move Sabonis out. He is not a guy you can build a winner around.

Agreed. How else are the Pacers going to find a unicorn like Bagley who can jump twice so quickly?

How so? Pacers are getting nothing for Myles Turner other than the right to pay Bagley a bad contract.

If Indiana’s rebuilding they’re going to want several draft picks for the veterans.

For such a talented guy Sabonis doesn't equate to winning despite having the ball in his hands the most. He's like Kevin Love in Minny. Just a good player putting up great numbers on a bad team. They had Nate McMillan, then Nate Bjorkgren, and now poor Carlisle is figuring out what to do building around Sabonis.

Tsarks recently wrote about Turner and it is interesting how Turner is the guy that is always in trade rumours and they never built around him. To me he is like Ibaka, kind of undervalued, but no one his size shoots as many threes and blocks shots. It's like having Chris Boucher who is 30 lbs heavier, and can make shots at 39% from outside. How can a skill set and size like Turner's not be in demand?

I disagree. I made mental notes a couple of years ago that Sabonis is the only reason why the Pacers are not a perrenial lottery team, though they are a treadmill. I would say his value is more like Marc Gasol, though better on offense and slightly worse on defense. Also the Raptors would be getting him entering his prime instead of exiting his prime.

He has his flaws, he has trouble during crunch time. Be it missing a bunny layup, not making a crucial free throw, or not executing the final play properly. He often chokes down the stretch.
Sabonis has a 62 TS% while averaging 2.2 TOV per36 in the clutch since he joined the Pacers (58 TS% and 2.5 TOV per36 since his role increased 3 seasons ago) and his career averages are almost identical to his clutch numbers over the past 3 seasons. Indiana has just been killed in the clutch since the start of last season because they're not very good, so it probably makes the odd mistake from Sabonis look much worse.

Similar to what we saw from Siakam last year with less talent, it's hard to perform at a high level in the clutch when the defence is so focused on one player.

I just don't see the FO being interested and I wouldn't blame em. Turner is a guy you grab to solidify a great team. Don't think he would elevate the Raps as currently constructed in any meaningful way.

Would've been nice on our post-championship team as an upgrade over Gasol in the Boston series. Not much point now with a rebuild on the go though.

I would do Dragic's contract, Boucher and a lottery protected first for Sabonis in a heartbeat.

A FVV, Barnes, OG, Siakam, Sabonis starting lineup with Trent, Svi, Banton, Birch, Precious, Yuta off bench with Flynn spot minutes I think can get us into the playoffs and will set us up for flexibility and development.

His defense may be not as good as Precious or Khem but his offense is 1000 times better. Surely we have room for an offensive player on this team.

Levert would be great too, an NBA scorer.

Geezus, its only a matter of even playing half a season for LeVert which is the challenge.

Guy is always hurt. What a big time scorer though.

He has been ass at scoring most of this season. Doesn't look like his usual self. You guys are still thinking about Brooklyn version of Caris.

The Caris LeVert one-man show against the Raps in the first round of the playoffs is still memorable!

I think Turner might be too expensive vs. what we're willing to give up and has one season left on his deal before we'll need to spend big $ to retain him (which given our cap situation may not matter as we'll likely be locked in with the players on the roster at that point). is that team good enough to compete? or does it keep us out of the lottery and not much else

the more I think about this, I wonder if Sabonis is the more interesting player. we all make excuses for the gaudy numbers and (rightfully) point at the bad defence, but I would argue the Raps need scoring talent more than a defensive player right now. we could surround Sabonis with defenders and shooters. we would need to move on from Siakam though..

what if we can get Sabonis for cheap and then trade Siakam for a defensive center + another piece. might be interesting, not sure

Then we end up with the same problem as Indiana. Sabonis is a C in today's NBA.

pretty fair if Indy likes taking it up the arse twice.

I completely disagree with this. At their peaks Gasol and Domas are basically the same offensively, but Gasol is on a different planet defensively. He got exposed defensively in the same raptors schemes that Nate ran.
Sabonis does not fit in this system where there is a requirement to switch in a pinch and he gets targeted defensively every play. I watch quite a bit of pacers games and teams are just going at him all the time.

I think they dont fit well because neither can shoot 3s. that said it would be hard to find a defensive center that can shoot 3s to pair with Sabonis. I guess he's best suited to come off the bench as a 6th man scorer/Harrell type

yea i think that's closer value but i don't think Raptors are getting such a good pick and Turner. i think the protections will be heavier or it will likely be a later pick.
