Re: GT: Nets @ Rockets 12/8/21 8:00pm (YES Network)
Im just tired of the excuses for Harden.
Hes supposed to be an MVP level player. We gave up a ton for him. And games like this we need him to dominate.
Instead he shoots 4/16. Is this guy ever going to go back to his old form? I don't understand how hes this bad right now. He cant put up points.
I think Blake needs to play again also. He brings a lot of defensive IQ and toughness to the interior that others don't.

No matter how much goodwill he builds up, or how much the players and front office support him, I'll never be OK with this shameful excuse for leadership. Kevin and James fall on the sword every time we lose, and this MFer acts like his $#!+ doesn't stink.

Nash was chosen to be a figurehead. As the great philosopher Kyrie once said "we don't need a coach" and Kd agrees as always. So the complaints are weird in a way because this is what your stars want. Iso heavy looks and not a ton of play calls, Harden is a high usage guy who basically runs his teams with a bunch of shooters around him and a lob threat. Kd clashed with Kerr because he wanted him to move the ball more and Kd likes to isolate and score. So, Nash is a perfect coach for what your stars want, a guy who just sits back and lets the stars do their thing.

It's one thing to be player friendly with some experience like a Ty Lue. It's another thing to be a really likeable hall of famer doing an apprenticeship at the highest level of basketball with championship aspiritations. He may one day be a good coach, but he's been set up for failure (at best ugly success by the skin of his teeth) and ultimately that's on Marks.
The most annoying thing at the moment is the iso ball combined with the snail's pace we're playing at. Harden's crossing halfcourt at 16 on the dot, then we get 1 pick and roll and a heavily shaded drive that is lucky to touch the paint. I'm amazed that we're not ranked 30th in points in the paint (Dallas claims that dubious honor, beat us out by 0.6 points per game at 39.7). No wonder teams have so much energy to run us ragged on the fast break, they must expend next to zero energy on defense.

Re: GT: Nets @ Rockets 12/8/21 8:00pm (YES Network)
I think another issue is that our spacing has become really bad.
Last night we marched out Claxton/Johnson/Bembry/Mills/Harden. That's three non shooters on the floor. It's hard to generate enough offense like that alone.
We need Harris back, and Marks needs to figure out how to add another scoring option to this roster. Kyrie has really screwed us over, this roster was built to basically be a defensive unit surrounding the Big 3 to provide balance. Harden having early season struggles, along with Harris going down and guys like Blake and Milsap being terrible is compounding the problem. We are LUCKY Aldridge came back.
The Nets need to sit down with KD, Harden and Kyrie and figure out what needs to be done. If people are calling about Kyrie, we need to field those calls and make a move. This is not sustainable.

I've said this repeatedly. It is very easy to defend the Nets offense right now. There is zero reason to defend anyone on this roster not named KD, Harden, Mills and Aldridge. If i was an opposing coach I would pack the paint and dare KD to score 50.

This team was built to be a bunch of tough defensive pieces around the Big 3 and two elite shooters (Harris + Mills)
Instead we have no Harris, no Kyrie, and Harden isn't playing well. Still weve managed to remain the top seed in the East.
But were not going to win a Championship playing this way. Our whole offense revolves around Durant and hoping are shooters are on.
Either Kyrie has to come back or Harden has to go back to who he was last year. Lets pray one of those things happen.

Roster won’t be the same come March. Don’t expect it; I think Ky might cave in and just come back. Also, Harris will be back and you have to consider trades to help retool a little. This team isn’t rebuilding under KD’s watch. Great teams always go through turmoil. I think Nets will get through all this crap and I do believe Marks will find a way, God willing.

I wonder if part of the Harden solution is to get a PG to start alongside him... Harden would still be the primary playmaker mind you, but having someone else to occasionally bring the ball up, organize the offense and call out plays might alleviate some of the stress on Harden and keep him fresher...

absolutely, that is what Kyrie was doing. The two players we need to replace are Carter and unfortunately Millsap. Griffin should be playing from the bench. It sucks we might lose some of our young pieces in the replacement process but we need another high level ball handler to share the load and play well when Harden sits. A 3 and D wing replacement for Millsap would be in order also. I would try to keep Claxton, I can see him evolving into the paint threat we have needed and his defense is not replaceable. As long as we have the shooters he is a positive on the floor. We should pursue Rubio or Dragic.

Unless some things change we are not winning a championship. We’re way too reliant on KD, I hate to say it but we are really missing Kyrie right now.

Harden was an incredible PG last year. When Kyrie was out too!
He just isn't playing like last year. And I don't get why. Part of it has to be mental. Really seems like he lost his confidence.

The slow pace lethargic approach is really a damper and a hindrance to play a high level offense.
This is unbelievable... we're 20 plus games in n nothing changed

He's been the lead playmaker for his team for quite some time, and I wouldn't expect that to change - but having someone to spell him would help keep him fresh. Right now he seems so zoned in on playmaking and organizing the offense that it's almost like scoring is a secondary concern / objective for him... And that is ideal with Kyrie, but without him the Nets need attack mode Harden.

His scoring is down 3.7 ppg. thats not massive and you can basically account for like 1 less trip to the FT line and 1 less finish at the rim per game to make that difference up. His FTs are up since the first weeks, he has adjusted. his finishing will likely take a bit more conditioning and a bit more mental hurdle to overcome.
he is sitll playing at an all-nba level

Bro its not about his PPG. Hes been horribly inefficient and turnover prone.
Hes having the worst season of his career. And hes been even worse in the clutch!

Horribly inefficient? he is at 59 TS% (62 TS% last 15 games) For his career he is 61 TS%. In a league that is down across the board in efficiency, that is FAR from inefficient, let alone "horribly inefficient". He has always been among the league leaders in turnovers. thats just due to super high volume (although he does have 1 boneheaded one a game).
There are only 6 players scoring as much as harden who have been more efficient: Steph, KD, Jokic, Derozan, Lavine, Giannis.
Beal, Lebron, Lillard, AD, Tatum, Luka, Trae, George, Booker, Chris Paul, Donovan mitchell... all less efficent then Harden right now.
Harden has been great. he just isnt as great as he has been the last several years. which is top 3-5/MVP. he hasnt fallen that far off. his 5.8 FG vs. 7.8 FG last year is the biggest difference. thats like 2 layups a game. he will get there

25 points on 16 shots is outstanding efficiency. he got to the line 16 times (should have been 20+). in a game where they doubled him at the logon on a majority of the possessions. he has been an all-star this year and probably all-nba.

its not a roster issue. even without kyrie and harris we have more shooting then most teams.
not many teams can roll out Harden (38%), Mills (#1 in the NBA in three %), and Kevin freaking durant(38%) who all do it on high volume along with a floor spacing big in aldridge. thats without harris. Milsap and blake (usually) also can not be left open from three and are stretch bigs.
I mean what more can a coach ask for then a PG who has the best step back three ever, the NBA leader in threes, and the best stretch 4 ever? and when harris comes back you can make it the top 2 three point shooters in the league.
i mean, how many shooters do we need to give nash before he can figure it out? 15? just give him team usa?
