Re: PG: GRIMES Shines. Stat Whore Randle Throws in the Towel
this team sucks, might as well sell, play the youth, and focus on the draft
there is no fix for this team this season
really exciting watching Grimes today, I'm cool w/ the losing as long as young players are getting a chance to develop. but if we're losing w/ vets that are supposed to win-now, that doesn't fly w/ me....the FO f*cked up, but we saw this coming a mile away when Dolan hired Rose

Oh well that’s true. I wouldn’t have personal animosity to a basketball player that I don’t even know, that would be a sad way to live

I'm one of the first to hate on Randle, but I think it's gotten extreme that some think he's untradeable
in fact, he may still be our best asset. he's just miscast as the unquestioned #1. if I'm Leon, I'm tryna piggyback off the Pacers trade rumors, find out what teams want Sabonis and sell Randle to whatever team misses out (or if Sabonis doesn't get traded)

People who say trade the vets play all under 25 players forgot dsjr frank knox mitch season. If your trying to force grimmes and mcbride into despair it's a good strategy.

It weeds out the turds. Play and get better, they don't have to win and there are no expectations other than play hard and learn from your mistakes. That's how Giannis and Kawhi went from trash to treasure.
Of course that requires coaching and player development and I'm not certain Thibs wants to do that because he thinks he's a championship level coach -- where as I think he's just Scott Brooks.

you mean the season when we were the worst team in the nba? That was one of the best seasons in franchise history, truly what we should strive for every season

the thing is, there's already a limited market for sabonis. guys like him and randle aren't easy to assimilate into your team. they don't shoot the 3 that well or play good defense.

Even if we go with a “youth movement”, we’ll still need a few vets on the roster to set examples and help hold teammates accountable. Taj will stay on. Maybe Burks too in order to take some of the scoring burden off the kids. I’d love for Kemba to stay on if we tank and he’s willing to be a mentor because he’s cheap. Trade Randle, Rose, Fournier, and Noel for expiring contracts, young talent, and/or picks.

Re: PG: GRIMES Shines. Stat Whore Randle Throws in the Towel
Super impressed with Grimes’ aggressiveness. He looked like a future star out there.Guessing we get at least one more game of him starting with players in protocol to see if this is fools gold or the real deal.
I can’t remember a free agency period that has flopped more than Kemba + Fournier + resigning Randle. It’s quite remarkable actually how it’s played out.
Unlike most, I still think here is time this season to turn things around but Thibs needs to experiment way more than he has been as opposed to trotting the same stuff out there and expecting a different result. Barring the Knicks letting McBride play more, a lineup of Burks, Grimes, RJ, Obi and Mitch would compete really hard and at least make the other team work. I kind of want to send the folks loafing around (Randle, Fournier, Noel) on a rocket to Jupiter.

Re: PG: GRIMES Shines. Stat Whore Randle Throws in the Towel
It’s not about Randle sharing the ball. 4 players took more shots then him tonight. Randle needs to score for this team to win.
Last year Randle was good for 25 a night. Right now, we don’t have a single 20 point score.
We barely have two 15 ppg scorers in RJ and Randle.
This team is beyond repair. We can trade for Turner, but the Pacers will try to bend us over a barrel because they know we are desperate. Emptying our trade assets for a non superstar player will lock us into the treadmill.
Real issue with this team is going into another season without a legit starting PG. Kemba was supposed to be that guy, but he is not, so we are trying to do another year of Randle ball, except the East got better.
We’d have been better off getting Schroder for the money we signed Kemba. At least he can get you 17 a night and play some defense.

He’s tradable, but the Knicks probably wouldn’t be interested in the packages they could get back. So we are most likely stuck

Got his jersey retired last night. I get what you saying tho, he seemed to be a numbers chaser early in his career.
He’s more Ricky Davis
yeah, zbo is loved in memphis. randle isn't on that trajectory here - could be it managements fault, his teammates fault, his fault, or we're just incapable of loving anyone is all up for debate.

He isn't untradable but
a) Finding a team that wants a power forward and isn't tanking
b) They have salary to match because the Knicks went up to the cap to sign dumpsters like Noel, Burks, Kemba and Fournier so we can't absorb salary in a trade because our front office is ex-agent **** from CAA
c) They have to think Randle is a winning player which for his entire career he hasn't been except for fake last year. So they probably needed to have their cable go out during the playoffs.
d) Another scenario is a team that wants to compete suffers a big injury to a player and thinks Randle can play with actual star players, I can maybe see Denver in this boat. They have one of the 5 best players in the league in Jokic but are just obliterated by bad injury luck. Murray hasn't played and MPJr is now likely a top 5 worst contract in the league.
Very unlikely, but lets say we hoodwinked Denver into thinking Randle is good at basketball despite him not being even league average efficiency, and a chucker, and a turnover machine, and being lazy on defense. Like they have visions of Jokic making "life easy" for Randle. They have to also believe Randle can shoot 38% from 3 on open Jokic created shots and thus Aaron Gordon is a big switchable 3 (suspend your disbelief).
I don't really know any trade though that works financially. They want to keep Barton and Gordon but can't make the trade without including one of them.

Last year Randle was good for 25 a night. Right now, we don’t have a single 20 point score.
But he's not even average efficiency. It's Tony Campell ball. Even last year he wasn't even average true shoting or EFG. So when it's ISO Randle it's basically like a homeless version of Carmelo Anthony who was slightly inefficient in his prime but a better volume scorer. Last year the reason we won was, other teams didn't care, other teams were raped by covid, and Randle played pretty good defense.

Yeah, I’m sold on this kid simply because his shot is not going to be too streaky because his form is pure and his release is damn quick. IOW, he could become one of our most reliable options for some scoring most nights he gets any sustained run.
I know he could be game planned for, but not really. Anyone who can shoot that well from deep and that quickly is hard to guard in the NBA
