What I would love is a super low risk, but high reward move that can have an impact. Would require some tweaking or bringing in a 3rd team but this is something I can see Masai going for.

Dragic + Boucher + Flynn

for

Brunson + Bullock + Moses + WCS

Brunson will be a UFA and I'm not sure DAL will want to fork out $$$ for him. Dragic cold essentially take his role (I'm assuming re-sign for a team friendly deal too) while keeping Flynn under cheap control for two more years. Brunson is someone I feel fits the DNA of the team and could absolutely see being signed to be our bench leader. Also can act as insurance in case of injury/trade to FVV.

Bullock is guy who's signed through next year with 23/24 being non-guaranteed so an easy contract to take and hopefully he can be a much more consistent option on our team than Svi as well as what he's been thus far in DAL. Meanwhile Moses we can try and develop to see if we can get anything out of him and WCS could simply be depth or a little trade chip as an expiring deal at 4M.

I know, the deal doesn't look like much, but some of our best deals were like that and I really think this could give our bench a little kick start without needing to give up assets/take unnecessary risks.

It does to me and I love it. Brunson is legit. We need depth badly. This is the type of trade that will equate to wins. It's not going to raise our ceiling as much as it raises our floor. As long as we're not using Boucher/Flynn for a bigger trade, this is a no brainer.

Brunson could have a Greivis type transformative effect on our bench IMO. He can play the 1 or 2. He's a leader. He's tough as nails. Worth actually signing and holding onto. Would allow Banton to focus entirely on his chaos game. Assertive enough to be a consistent scorer and most importantly can bring poise and intensity to our bench. Those 2 + Precious and Yuta would be very, very fun. If Bullock can provide some more shooting than Svi (which believe he can), our bench can thrive.

Bullock, WCS, Moses...They're not really contributing to the team so DAL would get to keep their main group (DFS, Powell, Kleber) while replacing Jalen and adding a role player like Boucher that offers a skillset that compliments what they do.

Well written as well as immaculately said.

I feel floor is our problem right now too. Ceiling is unpredictable game to game for any team. Consistent floor though, that's the mark of a real team.

Not only that, but Dallas is having a very tough time finding a big KP can play with that doesn't crater the offence.

Boucher can not only provide some offence (way more/better than the other bigs they have), but he also has the superior length to be a dispruptor too while Powell and Kleber can provide some stability so as to not need to overplay him.

Unfortunately Dallas doesn't have the pieces IMO to make a move for a bigger player, not this year. They're better off taking a utilitarian approach and frankly, if all it costs is Brunson, who they chose not to offer a contract to earlier this year AND who's a UFA this summer, easy win for them.

We get Brunson, although a UFA, we would retain his bird rights which would allow us to sign him to a nice 3-4 year deal to be our primary bench general who can learn under Fred and play many different roles for us.

Plus, another player who's dad was a Raptor!

EDIT: Not only is he born in New Brunswick (New Jersey), BUT HE'S ALSO A VILLANOVA ALUMN. HAVE MERCY.

Background:

Rockets want to open up playing time for Jalen Green
Rockets would like to move on from paying Eric Gordon at $19M this year and next year, without losing many assets.

Raptors want a Center who can defend
Raptors want to cash in on expirings, and would like to add some vet bench leadership

The trade:

Goran Dragic and Chris Boucher
for
Eric Gordon and Daniel Theis

Boucher can be redirected to a 3rd team for a high second rounder. Rockets just saved ~$20M in negative salary.

Eric Gordon can come off the bench as 6th man and fix our bench woes.

Theis is a good vet and defender at the PF-C position, and at 250lbs would become our best bet against other big men. Locked in at a reasonable 7M.

New Raps:
Fred VV / Trent / OG / Siakam / Barnes
Malachi / Gordon / Banton / Achiuwa / Theis
11th man Birch.

can't see the raps take on 20M in salary without draft compensation (wow just looked at theis contract - he's not worth that)

how about this:
Dragic to Dallas
Powell+ WCS to Houston
Eric Gordon + FRP from Dallas to Toronto

If we blow it up, and I mean really blow it up, would you do any of these trades to get super young, get picks and gain tons of cap space?

To Toronto: Devin Vassell, Josh Primo, Thaddeus Young, Bryn Forbes and SA 2021 1st round pick.

To San Antonio: Pascal Siakam

To Toronto: Coby White

To Chicago: Chris Boucher and Toronto 2023 2nd round pick.

To Toronto: Nickel Alexander Walker, Tomas Satoransky, and LAL 2021 1st round pick.

To New Orleans: Fred Vanvleet

To Toronto: Cory Joseph, Josh Jackson, Rodney Mcgruder and 2023 1st round pick (top 10 protected)

To Detroit: Gary Trent Jr

Then in the off season, get rid of Birch and Joseph and it would open up almost 65 million in cap space although we will probably get a top 5 pick this year with that lineup so that's another 7-10 million. Plus San Antonio's pick could be top 10 to 15. Imagine we walk out fo the draft with Chet (our pick) and Baldwin Jr with the SA pick.

After those picks we would have around 53 million in cap space to spend. Next year:

PG- Coby White 7.4/Dalano Banton 1.5
SG- Nickeil Alexander Walker 5.0/Josh Primo 4.1
SF- OG Anunoby 17.3/Devin Vassell 4.4
PF- Barnes 7.6/Baldwin Jr 4.0
C- Holmgren 8/Achiuwa 2.8

The ONLY thing we would be missing is a legit top flight PG, which I dont think would be too hard to acquire with the 2022 LAL 1st round pick, Det 2023 1st round pick, all of our 1st round picks, plus young players and cap space. We could go from bottom feeder to championship contender is a couple of years.

How about Serge Ibaka?

He's a UFA this summer.

I wonder if he could be had on the cheap.

Moses Brown finally seems to have been getting some run with the Mavs the last few games. The box score looks okay. Is he being showcased?

Would still like to see if there could be a buy low move for Jalen Smith. He doesn't seem to be a big part of the Suns right now, and it also appears his development is being hampered because the Suns don't even have their own G-League team after selling it to Detroit last year. It's not as easy for them to just send guys down on off days for some playing time and in their system.

Even if he just ended up spending most of the rest of the year with the 905, I'd love to see what our development team could do with him.

What makes sense for the Suns? Boucher?

Trent Jr is the likely trade candidate for the Raptors to get a center. I would look to go after Allen once the trade restriction date expires. Another trade would be LeVert for Dragic, the Pacers need cap room and we could extend the expiring to next season.

It adds scoring to the Raptors bench and they get the needed side in their front court. Optimally they would look for a stretch big but until Achiuwa develops or there are more available in the league there is not much hope for a stretch center that can also switch on the perimeter.

With the rumouss of LeVert to Cleveland,

Cavs get: Caris LeVert, Precious Achiuwa and Torrey Craig

Pacers get: Colin Sexton and Dragic

Raptors get: Jarrett Allen and 2022 2nd pick (Indiana)

by declining his option, the suns or any team that trades for him cannot resign him for more than his current salary, plus he is ufa.

so 2 outcomes; he sucks and its a wasted trade; or he shows promise and raptors risk losing him to another team because raptors would be handicapped. one caveat is he does have a relatively high salary, $4.5 mil, but if another team offers him $4.5 + 1 dollar raptors cannot sign him.

imo it would just be better to target him in the free agency market if you want him.

Outside of the context of that deal;
Jaxson Hayes is a guy I always tend to forget exists.

He has a season and change left on his rookie deal and doesn't seem to have a path to getting burn on the current Pelicans roster.

I could see him being dumped at the deadline or the draft for some middling asset

Good to know, thanks. I wasn't aware of the specifics of his contract situation. You're right, no point in trying to develop him if we'd just lose him at the end of the year.

Seems pretty odd though that if he's a UFA there would be restrictions on the team he currently plays for. But maybe that's to prevent teams from messing around with cap holds?

If JB is available I'd definitely be making some phone calls. Not sure what we could offer or if they'd ever trade with a division rival.

Sacramento needs Jaylen Brown at SF. Fox, Davion Mitchell, Damion Jones and 2nd pick for Jaylen Brown and Dennis Schroeder and Juan Hernangomez. This would greatly reduce the Celtics tax bill.

PG Haliburton - Schroeder
SG Hield - TD
SF Brown - Barnes
PF Barnes - Bagley
C Holmes - Juancho - Len

PG Fox - Pritchard
SG Smart - Mitchell - Langford
SF Tatum - JoshR - Nesmith
PF Horford - Tatum - GWill
C RWill - Horford - Jones

As for the Raptors? Trent, Boucher, 2022 1st pick (top 4 protected) and 2024 1st pick (top 4 protected)

I dont think Boston fans go for that. Value wise it is not bad but fit is not good for them. Fox cant shoot. Smart cant shoot. Mitchell cant shoot. Tatum could shoot but is at 32% from 3 this year. Horfords at 29% this year. Robert William's hasn't taken a 3 in his career from what I can see. That team has talent, but absolutely no shooting at all. If they take on Fox, they would definitely need someone who can really shoot the lights out as his backcourt partner at a minimum.

This is a valid concern. Look what Mo Bamba is doing with an opportunity. I will say that $4.5m and some familiarity with the team and coaches might be enough to keep him, but ya. Probably not worth it in case he does 'break out'.
